E63 / E64 6 Series (2004 - 2010)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

2006 650I Conv. No Bluetooth, FM or AM

Hello,

I recently acquired a 2006 650I convertible. It's been quite the project. I have replaced the transmission solenoids, windshield, wheel bearings, brake pads, rotors, spark plugs, coil packs, fuel breather valve, brake wear sensors, ABS sensors, changed all filters and replaced some cosmetic items. I have successfully overcome 8 engine codes and the accompanying check engine light. I am learning fast and all is good. I am down to 2 items that I can't seem to find a solution for:

1) Cannot pair a phone to Bluetooth.
2) FM/AM radio is not an option.

I have tried replacing both antennas in the trunk with no luck. I am awaiting the arrival of an FM Amp that is also mounted on the trunk lid to see if that has any effect.

I got a free trial from XM to see if that works and it does indeed. Also, the CD player works fine, although I have not tried the CD Changer that is mounted in the glove box.

From the IDrive menu, the HD radio is disabled and nor can I select FM or AM. Bluetooth is an option and I try to pair my phone and it never shows, using an iPhone x. My vehicle has the IDrive screen, cd drive and dvd drive on the console. I have tried the navigation DVDs that I got off ebay but they couldn't be read. I am going to try some earlier versions and see if the DVD can read them.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
AJ

I would 1st try to reboot the IDrive by holding the power button along with both eject buttons on the CD players. This will cause a complete reboot of the IDrive. This will usually allow the Bluetooth to connect when having connection problems. If you do not see the AM or FM options, someone has most likely coded them out. This would be the only way you can not see the options. You will need NCSExpert to go into the module, to activate the disabled options. You can do this with the software & cable, or pay a dealer or BMW service shop to fix the problem. I don't think the CD player will read MP3 disk, unless a coding change is made to enable this option?

Thanks for the tip. I am fairly certain that I have tried that as I was having issues with a nav DVD ejecting and I tried resetting the IDrive several times as well as disconnecting the battery cable.

So taking your advice, I would need a cable and NCSExpert software. Is there any other software that is needed or I could benefit from in the future for this vehicle? Is that the best one?

Thanks again,
AJ

There are several programs to choose from, but ISTA is the new platform that includes all of the older programs also. The complete package is found for under 100.00 with everything you need.
