BMW X5 4.4i E53 (2002) door mirror courtesy/puddle lights

Hi All,

I've been upgrading all my lights to LED but, when I got to the mirror courtesy/puddle lights, I tried two different LED bulbs but neither worked. I even put the original bulbs back in but then they didn't work...!

This was on both sides so I initially thought I've blown a fuse but I can't find which fuse would cover these lights? Everything else is working & I'm sure there isn't just a fuse specifically for these little lights, so may be it isn't the fuse, or maybe something needs resetting somewhere?

The wiring looks secure & I don't think I dislodged anything while removing the mirror covers, although they were fiddly.

It's annoying because there were working before...! I know, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but all the other lights now look so much better, brighter & more modern I wanted to upgrade these as well!

Thanks for any advice!

I put LED's in mine and they work fine, so that shouldn't be the problem. Have you tried closing the doors, locking them with the fob and then unlocking. That is when they should come on. They don't stay on very long.

Hi Fifty150hs,

Thanks for replying.

I must admit, I forgot that they only stayed on for a while, so I was working away for 1/2 hour to begin with but I also tried shutting the door, locking, then opening but still no joy!

I tried two different makes/designs of LED bulbs but do they have to be particularly low power or, at least, lower than usual?

Thanks again!

All the ones I've purchased have only needed 12 volts. If you put the original bulb back in and it's still not working, then it's likely a broken wire or a wire that has pulled out of a connector.
