Traffic Info

Back when the lockdown was just starting I signed up for the Traffic Info at BMW Assist. During the lockdown we didn't do what we would call traveling. And there was never any traffic.

Now, I discover that I am not getting any traffic info.
They did send me an email about Updating Service but none of the menu options on my iDrive seemed to agree with the email text. I did get to the point where it said "transferring data" and "transfer complete" but still no traffic messages or traffic flow information on my map.

Anyone have ideas?

Is there any traffic near Easton, MD of which to inform you? It doesn't look like that to me. My RTTI works fine when I am traveling.

Have you made the selections along the left side of the iDrive Nav screen that turns on traffic info? If not...it will also let you know if there's no traffic info. And like DH commented...if you don't live in a larger metropolitan/urban area where there's lots of traffic...there is no RTTI info to send.

Yup, Easton is a small town but when I enter in a trip to the other side of DC, I should get some info. The Washington Beltway is almost never a clear run.
The real test for the Easton traffic should be this holiday weekend. We are the main road between Ocean City and the rest of the state. We'll see what pops up. Stay tuned.

I believe RTTI shows green lines even when there is no traffic, unlike RDS-TMC which will only show yellow/red. Do you see anything in the traffic list? It does depend on your local data sources, but I always see some sort of road closure or construction advisory on the list.

Exactly,Robin. I get no red, green or yellow highlights. When I go to fetch the traffic list, for the first time of the day it says "Loading Traffic information" and then shortly later it says (something like) "No current reports".

Also, there are always road construction warnings. Nothing now.

That sounds like the RTTI subscription isn't active. Do you see it for your car on https://connecteddrive.bmwusa.com?

You might have to call BMW Assist and have them check if the renewal went through. When my BMW Assist services were supposed to expire, the RTTI didn't immediately stop working until almost two months later (then I coded RDS-TMC fallback).

Well, Robin, a big check mark goes in the "happy face column" for you.
And a big check mark goes in the "duh" column for me.

Apparently I bought the Connected Package back in March. And the RTTI was not included.
Your website link clearly spelled it out. Thanks much.
Love this site.

Just bought the RTTI and we'll see how that goes.

Stay tuned.

What used to be the BMW Assist Convenience Package for $199/yr was split into three packages, ConnectedDevice Services, Concierge Service, and RTTI. I think the ConnectedDrive Services that you previously purchased includes apps like weather and text messages from your phone.
