Hi all newbie with a trans failsafe question

I recently bought a 2004 x5 3.0l diesel auto. Drove fine for 2 days. Now the battery is flat and trans failsafe is flashing up and it fails to start even with a jumpstart. Does anyone have any ideas? I've bought a new battery hoping its just that but haven't had chance to fit it yet. It drove fine before hand. Also appears the rear lights are now constantly on. It had a few things on the dash like the tyre pressure light and various bulb warnings could anyone shed any light on it please?

A low or dead battery can cause a large amount of false fault codes. I would start with replacing the battery (since you already bought one) and making sure it is fully charged. Make sure the battery gets registered and is the correct type for your BMW. Also itís time to get a BMW specific code scanner.

BMW specific scanner is what is needed to register. Many brands to choose from but you have to make sure itís made for BMW. Foxwell, Autophix, Carly, etc. you can get one from as little as $90 or so which is at least what a shop will probably charge you for registering it themselves. You will use a scanner countless times in the future if you intend on keeping your BMW. Iím guessing you donít know if the previous battery was ever registered. If a battery isnít registered it will charge incorrectly or will charge it based on the condition of the old battery which can lead to killing the new battery. Check the simple things too. Cables, grounding, etc.
