Instrument Cluster Issues

My Instrument cluster going a bit nuts. A lot of warning lights blinking on and off. Also - the needles for tach and mph spike up and down.

Anyone have suggestions ? Does 2014 X1 have a voltage regulator or is it built into alternator. Any ideas on where to start looking ?

New to BMW

thanks for any Help

Does it do this with the engine running?
Could be low battery?

FWIW, I've experienced this in non-BMW vehicles and it's always been battery / alternator / electrical-related. Highly recommend pulling any stored codes.

When this happened on my past e60 530xi it was an indicator the battery was failing. Testing with a multi-meter isn't always an accurate indication of "battery health" on newer BMWs.

Could also be a bad ground connection somewhere near the battery.

You said ALL modules have faults again ? Again, this is super characteristic of a bad battery.

Yeah, ummmmmm, Advanced Auto isn't really who I would trust to diagnose my BMW. Just saying.

I had something similar happen when the TPMS receiver shorted out. Took out the CANBUS system (which shouldn't be possible, but that's BMW...) and every other module freaked out. Tach and speedo swung widely, warning lights flashed on and off, Idrive kept rebooting.

Fortunately the car was still under warranty, so the dealer took care of it. They replaced the bad receiver - and then had to program the car to accept the new module.
