BMW ETCC cars actually have this cover as well. Whatever it takes to smooth out flow underneath the car.

Kris: do you actually still jack the car up from the belly pan front? I did that once some light years ago until I was informed that was not a structurally sound location to hold the weight.

Yep, all the time. No problems. There's a structural brace right "behind" (above) the "rectangle" in front of the oil pan trap door. In order to not bend the raised rectangle, you'd need to put an appropriately sized block of wood on your jack..

That car won't be perfect until you replace the "belly pan".

Just installed the oil pan trap door, so in case anyone's curious, this partner also fits an '04 vert. I'm expecting about +3HP from it.

Sucky thing was my arm was too short by like an inch to install this without jacking the car up, so instead of a 30 second install, it took 3 minutes.

One advice about the trap door. Make sure that when you tighten the screw, you really tighten it. Pull on it just to make sure. Last thing you need is hear a rattling sound from underneath your car.

Yup. Take ^^^ that advice. First time I took my car out after installing the door, sure enough, it flipped open and made a god awful sound. I knew right away what it was. It's been in my trunk since cause I've been too lazy to crawl back under there.

I'm wondering now if having the door causes more drag than not having it.

I picked up the (special ordered) cover from my local dealer today and put it on as soon as we got home.

Thanks for posting the correct part number, Kris.

What kind of shape is it in?

After 70k miles, mine was severely bowed. It kinda looked like a mini "half pipe".

Needless to say, I removed it.

It's still in a good shape.

Just that I think the location of the fastener should have been behind rather than in front. If you notice, after you install, the flap does not flush perfectly against the opening. Hence over the course of driving, air drag can occur and can push on the flap, thus loosening the fastener over time. I track a lot and I think my track mates will hate seeing an unknown object fly out on the track, hence I have decided not to install it anymore.

holy old thread batman !!!, I was directed to this thread after posting a similar question on e46fanatics forum, as my cover is warped and as my model is 330ci 7/2001 and nothing listed for after 2/2001.
is the second p/n listed gonna fit a later 2001 such as mine, or is it only for way later years? I will probably wait till im under there and pull the existing cover and see if theres a p/n on it, just so I don't order the wrong one but I didn't see what year KrisL's car was, just 330i so im not sure **duh, just saw the year of his car in his sig line** so still wondering about the fit of that second p/n found for the trap door on a 7/2001 build 330ci

doug
