Extremely disappointed with BMW !!!

I apologize for this picture heavy and emotional post, but I feel that I need to express what we have recently experienced and give a bit of my background and history with BMW. My love with BMW's started 20 years ago when I went to purchase a Lexus GS430 after conducting a 6 month review and decided to take an e39 540i (spotted at the dealer's parking lot) for a test drive even though I did not really like the BMW brand. 30 minutes later I was going home with my first Ultimate Driving Machine and my love affair began. Since then I have owned 19 different BMW's, attended hundreds of BMW related events, been a member of BMW CCA for many years, completed European Delivery, Performance center deliveries, used our Euro Delivery car as our wedding car and many more. We have supported the lifestyle by representing the brand via multiple forums, social media channels and wearing the BMW attire everywhere we went. You name it and I have it, suitcases, bags, umbrellas, hats, ties, kids clothing, kids toys, mugs, kitchen ware, chairs, etc. We have met amazing people and friends throughout the process and are now able to share life time long experiences with them. BMW has been the glue for relationships, we have lived and breathed the brand 24/7 and have gone above and beyond to pass it on to our kids. We have introduced the brand to many other people that we have met along the way and have brought them into the BMW family because that is what we considered what BMW has done for us personally. Fast forward......

About 10 days ago BMW released a statement that they will be cancelling European Delivery for NA customers and the last day to place the order in was on May 18th with July-Sept Munich deliveries. I was about to turn 40 and my wife said as a gift we should go get my F90 Competition and take the kids around Europe for two weeks. We built the car on BMW NA website and sent to build code to Jon Shafer to put the order in and placed a deposit. I received my production number, started tracking the car and planning the trip with the hope that Covid-19 will not affect our travel in 3.5 months. The whole family was excited and spent countless hours showing the kids where we were going to stay and what they were going to experience.
Last Thursday I received a call from the dealer stating the BMW pulled of their allocations for Euro Deliveries and our hearts dropped. This was the last chance to visit the Welt, pick up our own car and zoom around the Alps in the very car that we will enjoy and cherish back home. In addition, to help BMW with sales and support the brand that we have loved for many years, my wife started building her x5M order for PCD as her car's lease was maturing shortly after mine.
We received no explanation, no communication and nothing that would help save this relationship. I feel betrayed and used by a corporate giant that we thought cared about us for all these years. Where do we go from here?
Below are some of our experiences and cars that we shared together and made our lives so much better. Sorry for a lot of pictures, but this is only about 2% of all the photos of our cars and events.

I'm with you brother. 17 BMW ED's for us, maybe 25 new BMW and Minis total. Disappointing, but even more is the manner in which NA handled this. After de-contenting the ED program several years ago, NA's BIG customers (the Autonations, Penskes; etc, ...not us) got what they demanded. It wouldn't have cost NA anything substantial to shut down the program with more warning, and have protected the end users who have already made commitments to their new BMW via ED.

All I can tell you is this is not likely the end of BMW ED's, based upon how fickle Porsche, VW and Audi have been with their ED programs. It will be back, someday, but that doesn't do you any good right now

The writing was on the wall, see my post started 11/3/17. i gave the program 2 years; didn't miss it by much. https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh....php?t=1139785

I have a new RS6 Avant on order, and although Audi maintains their ED program is dead, I'm trying to convince them to make an exception for an exceptional car coming to the US. If ED is important, a 911 in Germany is a wonderful experience; I've done it twice.

Yes and I worked with Jon Shafer himself to place the order. He is a superstar with ED orders and BMW's altogether. He has been fighting BMW on behalf of his clients 24/7.

I also received this prior to us placing the order:

Hello,

Any order for European Delivery does have to be in by May 18th, we are booking July and later, up until September. There will not be any deliveries after September, so a March 2021 pick-up unfortunately would not be possible.

If you were looking to go in August or September of this year, that would be a possibility.

Thank you,

Ok, good! Because when you said:

I thought you literally meant that no one had explained what had happened about the orders being cancelled. Sounds like John did explain and communicate to you, which is good.

Hope it works out!

The orders and production numbers that were assigned to people, myself included, were pulled out of the system. BMW did not offer explanations to the dealers. Jon has been putting up a fight on my behalf, but I am not sure there is anything we can do.

Best of luck on the ED for you, I am waiting to hear confirmation on mine also (M2C). I was in a similar boat as I was planning on doing it for 50th birthday in 18 months and was planning to order a M3. We had planned a couple week family vacation, plus visiting European universities for my older daughter who wishes to study abroad. I can empathize with your disappointment, as we have been planning this for about 15+ years. Let's hope this works out for everyone.

It most likely won't work out, but don't give up. There are options. You can rent a BMW from The Welt and use it for couple weeks in Europe. If you have never been it's life changing depending on which countries you use. Wish you all the best.

I am sure Jon is on top of his game as he has been doing this for an extremely long time. Someone in one of our local groups posted last Friday that she placed an order for an X2 M35i for ED and it will be built as a '21. When some of us (including another CA that had his orders pulled as well) questioned it in light of all the order cancellations, her CA jumped in today stating that the order was already accepted.

I cannot tell you that, unfortunately. I can only suggest Zuffenhausen. Check it out.

What I can tell you, though, it is where not to go. Avoid gargantuan dealership conglomerations because they are the ones that sowed a seed of this destruction.

Check the somewhat old thread about diminishing ED incentives from 2017 or so. Best wishes for you and your family for a good vacay in EU, even if done in a rented BMW out of MUC airport.

Beautiful family photos! Sorry to hear that BMW NA "pull the rug out from under". I'm also in the cancelled status 111 with ya, but with Oktoberfest cancelled this year, was only going to do PCD.

How is your wife's X5M build allocation looking? BMW AG removed the X5/X6/X7 models from the BMW Individualizer recently, as the start of MY2021 (8/20) was going to allow Individual orders. Reason I ask is that my replacement X5M order is on the horizon, but I'm still suffering from PTSD due to my cancelled F83 order. Ford had to shut down 2 factories yesterday-- who knows when production will return to normal.

BMW NA had to lose millions from cancelling orders.

Only way to prove a point to BMW NA is by walking to other brands.

With your F90 comp and F95 comp orders, would think that BMW NA would make it right? That's close to $250,000 MRSP of ordered cars-- no chump change.

P-cars are amazing machines, but I am an M5 guy. In the last 20 years I've stepped out twice. 67 Camaro RS SS and sold that last year for a 2014 Ferrari FF. Bring my kiddos everywhere I go and I need 4 seats.

Option 2 was renting a car for couple weeks and driving around.....it's just not the same.
We knew there were issues with ED and most people don't go to Munich to pick up their BMW, but for those loyal enthusiasts it was a great option to become even closer to BMW.

All cancelled and reffered to local inventories. I don't really blame them for shutting the factories and trying to save lives, but as a company that prides themselves in loyal customer relationships you would think they would make ED possible for those that were already in the system perhaps 6 months from now when hopefully everything returns to normal. My gripe is still lack of communication and basically pulling production numbers from people that spent their hard earned money to support the company.
All in all, me going to another brand would not hurt them or their image....I'm small potatoes. In addition, it is so hard to go outside of the brand that we have loved for such a long time.

Wow! That Camaro looks really awesome! And FF ... well, it IS a Ferrari, so enough said

I do not really care at all about Macan, Cayenne, Panamera or Taycan ... but this particular breed of Panamera would certainly interest me if I were in the market for that - and especially if I could afford FF (which I do not)

Plus, Ferrari doesn't have ED program, do they?

Plus, Ferrari doesn't have ED program, do they?
I saw one with a roof box on it and it looked really cook. I have never driven the Panamera.
This one kind of has a horse shoe shape like the FF.
Ferrari doesn't offer anything unless you spend couple million with them. Then you can tour the factory.

My gripe is still lack of communication and basically pulling production numbers from people that spent their hard earned money to support the company.
All in all, me going to another brand would not hurt them or their image....I'm small potatoes. In addition, it is so hard to go outside of the brand that we have loved for such a long time.
Unfortunately I agree and same applies to me. They probably won't miss the small band of EDers for the loads of soccer moms they are now appealing to. It used to be that BMWs were more of something special, but these days half of the people I see driving them barely know what they are driving and wouldn't recognize or care if another one pulled up next to them at a light. Loss of ED is huge for me and my brand loyalty as well and is making me consider going elsewhere when my lease is up.

Sorry to hear about this OP. Weve done 4 EDs and have had a long affair with BMWs (12 cars). I skipped ED on my 2nd M4 last summer. Guess that was a mistake. The wife and I wanted to take our son (hes a little guy) on a BMW ED in 2 years but obviously thats not possible. Between the loss of ED and the Beaver G series ///M cars I really dont know what to do. Im seriously considering leaving the brand altogether. BMW has lost most of its magic the last couple of years anyway. We might try a Porsche or Merc SUV for the wife on ED in a few years. Sad times

As a Ferrari owner, I can clarify a couple of things. First, Ferrari does allow you to take delivery of your new car in Maranello. It's not an "ED" program per se, but they will fuss over you and you can drive your car around the environs for a couple of days before returning it for shipment. But to do this, you need to be a Ferrari "A-Lister" and way up that list. Probably takes a lot more than $2M to arrive!

On the other hand, a factory tour is available to all owners. Wife and I had been plotting a sort of dual ED - Pick up the new BMW in Munich, drive to Maranello for the new Prancing Horse, factory tour, etc. Alas, not to be but fun contemplating.

In other words, you want us to know that you are an extremely exceptional individual, and a huge supporter of the marque, despite the fact you've been a BF member for 15 years, and have made fewer than 200 posts? And that the selfish, short-sighted, nefarious and evil forces at BMWAG have done you irreparable harm?

I do feel sorry for the long-time 'Festers who have shared their BMW journeys with us for years. The gang we've ridden along with during the good times as well as the bad. And I feel REALLY sorry for the Jon Shafer's of this world who were blind-sided by this decision and have had to scramble to appease upset and entitled customers.

But the drama, whining and virtue-signaling I can do without.

And look at that. The situation is resolved. Kudo's to Jon.
