Model year 2021, as expected. Start of Production in June, so I would think they will begin taking orders pretty soon??

The red brake caliper option doesn't start until August though, so I may hold off until then.

Has anyone heard if they have started accepting special paint (custom colors) orders again in Spartanburg? I know they cut it off back in 2013 but have not checked into whether they have started offering it again or not.

I'll ask Jon about the special paint options. I'd love to have the color of the X5 M in "Marina Bay Blue." If that's not an option we'll go with the White metallic. The rest of the colors are just too muted for our taste.

We're in the process now of ordering an X5 45e, one of the two that Jon Shafer of BMW Santa Maria, has been alloted. Just waiting for the pricing guide to come out.

Date of first production is listed as 6/20. From what I was told today, the base price is $65,400 probably plus delivery.

One thing I thought I might want was the acoustic glass. That was only available last year for a vehicle specifically ordered for a customer, not available for the dealer to put on the lot. It's not currently available that way for at least this model this coming model year.

MSRP is $73,500 with destination/prep charges. This is tempered somewhat by the $7500 fed tax credit and a $1,000 CA tax credit (although the X5 45e isn't listed just yet) and a $1,000 check from being a member of the BMW Car Club.

Special paint is never listed as an "option" for the vehicles, but that doesn't mean it is not available.

So are you ordering this without knowing the actual final price?? Or has Jon agreed to some amount or percentage over invoice pricing once it is available?

You noted an MSRP, how was that derived? I assume someone must have the base and options pricing in order to come up with a total MSRP.

I talked with my local sales rep on Thursday and he could not pull up a printed sheet that listed the individual options' prices, but said that if he went into the ordering process, it would produce the MSRP. They had one allocation that was scheduled to be built on 6/26 that was not sold at the time, and could be custom configured. I would like to drive one before I drop that kind of money, although, I'm pretty sure they would let me out of any deal at this time if I did not like that one.

The acoustic glass I mentioned is what I think they called a level 1 option...only available for a dealer to select when the car was being built for a specific customer rather than for store stock. That's what it was for MY 2020. The list did not list did not show that list in the above doc in the OP's post. So, it does not appear to be available on this model.

I asked specifically about the special paint and Jon said no, not an option at this point. We negotiated a price before pricing was available at a % off MSRP. He's subsequently been able to spec everything with the prices.

Ah, that's too bad about the special paint, but I am not terribly surprised. I just wish they would make a few of the colors that they offer on the X6 and X4 available on the X5 - they're built in the same factory, so there is zero reason why this would be all that difficult to do.

Thanks for the reply and info. And let us know when you get a confirmed production date. Sounds like you may be in line to get one of the first builds in the States.

So definitely no third row seat option... Bummer! Unless an X7 45e is coming soon, BMW may lose me as a customer come December when my 2018 X35d lease expires. I need third row seats and the other BMW engines available on the X5 are just not my cup of tea, with either good mileage but not enough torque, or enough torque by miserable mileage. Diesel has spoiled me!

I am considering that option. That said, I've had some on this forum advise otherwise, given that BMW's support of diesel will probably dwindle down to not much ultimately, making it harder to get service and parts etc. I'd rather also not have to deal with car repairs (which is one major reason why I'm a repeat leaser). Now, if BMW is willing to give me a real sweet deal at the end of my lease to entice me to keep the car given that their used car inventory is piling up, then I'll seriously consider keeping the car despite the potential lack of adequate support.

IAS has also been dropped from the 40i for MY21 and is only available on the M50i with either the DHP or in combination with air suspension.

Apparently, ours finished production yesterday, and is awaiting carrier assignment. We are wanting to do a PCD. Not sure how that is figured in.

PCD has to be arranged prior to production, I think. I'm not sure whether that program has restarted...I'd heard that they stopped it earlier. If it was done yesterday, they started a week early based on what was said earlier...since it has been sold elsewhere for awhile, may not be a big deal, but not sure if there are any running changes for MY21 that may impact that.

Hi everyone. New guy here and first post. I have an X5 45e on order. Production to start July 2 per my dealer. It will be my first BMW and I'm so excited. Most recent vehicles were 2010 & 2014 Highlanders. Will be trading or selling the '14. I'm a little dissappointed that the US models aren't getting the battery power (17KWH usable/24) and EV mileage that our European friends are getting, but not enough to not buy the car. Even with 30 miles of EV range instead of 40+, it should still satify my needs well. I wish I understood why there is such a large variation in usable battery capacity and EV range between the European & US models, but very excited to be here and looking forward to being a Fester.

California did a test on the 45e, and the mileage based on their testing was something like 44/41 on electric only. The EURO test is a lot less stringent, and they have a higher range with that. The EPA values tend to run at least 10% less than the Euro ones because of different driving cycles between the two tests.
