X1 F48 (2016 - current)
Second generation F48 BMW X1 builds on the success of it's predecessor. Increases in power, interior and cargo space keep it a leader in the small SUV field.

Anyone else hate the silver trim? 2018+

In browsing for new/used cars, I don't really like the silver accent trim on all 4 sides of the newer cars. Literally HATE with a passion! Looks gaudy to me, like many Mercedes do. No offense to newer owners! Just my preference.

Guess I'm stuck with 2017's or older. Anyone take these off and black out, etc.?

A tot of SUV's have that, even some Range Rovers. ON the bumpers, it's supposed to look like skid plates. I'm not sure what the "sawtooth" trim on the bottom of the doors are supposed to be. I guess it's supposed to convey an air of ruggedness.

Frau Putzer has a 2018 X3, built in March 2018, but with the Luxury Line trim and a trailer hitch. Getting the Luxury Line got the sawtooth trim painted black. That and a chrome insert changes the looks of trim along the bottom of the doors. At the time, the trailer hitch got rid of the gray trim along the bottom of the back bumper. The BMW configurator now shows a fake skid plate with a cut out for the trailer hitch receiver. The fake skid plat and "bars" on on the front bumper have chrome tips on them, sort of visually diminishing them.

The solution would normally be to spring for the ~$2500 M Sport Package, although most BMW's with that have a dark gray insert in the back bumper. That wasn't an option on the X3, because getting the M Sport Package prevents you from getting non-run-flat tires. They eventually fixed that configuration glitch on the X1 with M Sport Package, though.

I also hate the dark gray plate on my '16 X1's rear bumper. Looks cheap IMO. Make it body colored or blacked out.

I hate them too - especially the side skirts. I've considered Plasti-dipping or wrapping them in a darker gray that matches the OEM wheels. Would love to see pics of any mods people have done.
