E63 / E64 6 Series (2004 - 2010)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

Oil Change

Having been a strong advocate of 3K mile oil changes in all my cars I am having a hard time adjusting to the 15K mile interval on the BMW. Can the express oil change shops change the oil on a 650, or does it have to be done by the dealer? I am thinking I should at least have an initial change at 2500 miles.

You could do it yourself and cut the interval in half.

Unfortunately the new engines don't have dipsticks so you cant use the super easy extraction method.

Just don't take it to one of the speedy lube type places..... Too many horror stories about them using the wrong parts, putting the the fluids in the wrong places, not putting fluids in at all, forgetting to put the parts back together or putting them together incorrectly.

Find a good independant BMW mechanic and take it to them for the things you can not do yourself.

So, is the oil drained from underneath? How accessible is the drain plug? How bout the filter?

15,000. I was tempted to do it at 3,000 when I brought the car in for one of its regular iDrive issues, but I am going to wait till 7,500 even though everyone assures us it's good till the light tells us, 1 year, or 15,000 miles. But, 1,200 miles is a clear waste of money. (If you do it, will you save the oil for me?)

I'm confused pdx. You seem to be very concerned about changing the oil at a very low mileage, but are willing to just find anyone who can do itl? Everything that I have read indicates that if you really are concerned about the quality of your oil, you should send a sample to be tested. This way you can find out whether or not you should change every 1k, or 20k miles based on your oil, and not some guidelines from us bozos.

Wherever you go, make sure you know the type and brand of oil and filter they are going to be installing

I am amazed by those who create problems where none exist.
