No key warning

Started the i3 apparently with the key fob in my wife’s purse. Dropped my wife off (with her purse) and I did not realize I did not have my key fob until I was several miles away and had turned the car off. No warning from the i3 on the fact that the car was traveling with no key. Pressed the SOS button and was told they could not remote start the vehicle. Why didn't the i3 warn me?

Don't you get alert tones when the key leaves the car? Happens to me every time I step out to get the mail with the fob in my pocket. I'm not sure if a red "No Key" message also pops up on the main screen, but I think I remember one.

You should get a no key detected message. It may have come on and you didn't realize it. Your vehicle i-drive will display check control messages. You can still drive the vehicle but as soon as you turn the vehicle off or open the door, you will not be able to turn it back on.

Several miles? I find that hard to believe. But maybe not. The i3 does have it's faults. For instance, you can press the trunk open button on the remote while the car is in motion. That happened to me by accident a couple times. Such a security/safety concern. Not sure why BMW doesn't address that. Pretty crazy that it can happen while on a freeway.
A fanatic of all things electric. Ridables like electric ice chests and stand up scooters I adore. Drones like DJI, I root for. I'm a fan of both, but nothing beats my love for my 2016 i3 Rex with Deka World. Shhh, don't tell my wife.
