2003 X5 4.4i Hard engaging transmission or transfer case
I have a pretty constant issue when driving at a constant speed (especially noticeable at low speed) when beginning accelerating there is a rough(not hard just rough) driveline engagement.
If I'm supper smooth slowly pushing the gas the hit is not noticeable. it just when I switch brake to gas quickly I get this engaging surge(rough hit). It feels as if there is delay in transfer case or differential when things engage and I get a bit of a hit.
The transmission other than that is great shifts super smooth up and down going through gears. Its is just that at slow speed there is no smooth engaging as the power is put through to the wheels.
The transmission was rebuilt a year ago by previous owner (completed by a reputable transmission shop) and like I said there is no shifting problem at all just this delay and roughness when switching on to gas.
could there be some "slack" in transfer case as the power travels down to the differentials?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
