2012 535i Adaptive headlight malfunction

First I had a message that said the left turn blinker needed to be changed, then it switched adaptive headlight malfunction...what exactly is this. Is this just the headlight needs to be replaced. This is my 3rd BMW, and none of them have I ever had to change the front or rear lights.

Is this something that I can change myself, or does it have to be taken to my mechanic, or worse the dealer for them to charge me up

There's a module that might fix that, but I'd first check the connection and ensure that there's no corrosion so things are getting proper contact. You can view the parts at www.realoem.com and get an idea of retail prices. Not saying replacing the module will fix it. It's also possible that a BMW code reader might narrow down the fault better. THere are ways to get that capability that don't cost a lot (minimum, you need an adapter to connect to the OBD-II port) if you use a software based program, or there are some code scanners that can read the BMW specific codes. The Foxwell 510 or the branded version ECS Tuning sells under their Schwaben brand (same box, different label). Some non-BMW shops will have that capability and may not charge a lot to do the scan.
