Bay Area Shop Recommendation

Looking for an independent shop recommendation. My 650 is out of its service contract period and I need to get new tires mounted and balanced as well as an alignment done. I would prefer a place that specializes in bimmers for future scheduled MX as well.

Thanks in advance.

I only know local shops here in Vallejo

M Service Garage
and
Garage Works.

Both do fine work

Palo Alto Bimmers is a highly regarded shop. Labor isn't cheap, but they will do little stuff for free.

Check yelp.com - there are several good options.

Follow up and review on Palo Alto Bimmer: SIMPLY F-ing AMAZING

Took my car in to have a leaking rear differential fixed, SSK installed including new UUC carrier bushings, steering coupling ("guibo") replaced, tranny fluid replaced, drivers side SRS connection replaced and a few other odds and ends.

Differential - no charge, seepage marks appear to have been from last fill and is a really slow leak if it is leaking. Cleaned seepage marks and told to reevaluate in 10k. If gasket does to be done, total P&L will be $200

SSK - Installed for $100 (I did not want to crawl around underneath the car feeling around for this one!)

Steering coupling / Guibo - Installed for $25

Tranny Fluid - $20

SRS - no charge - replaced connector pin, turned of airbag light.

This is the kind of service that makes owning a high mileage BMW palatable, if not darn enjoyable! Two giant thumbs up.

Is there a service rep you recommend here?

A big thumbs up from me for Palo Alto Bimmer as well. When I had my 2001 325i, I brought it there after the warranty expired, and found their service to be excellent and reasonably priced. I always felt that they were honest, and never fixed or replaced something unless it was really needed. The owner Mike is friendly and responsive.

Don't be put off by how the place looks--it's pretty small, and it may seem cramped and disorganized, but trust me, they take great care of the cars.

When my '08 535i goes off warranty, I'll definitely bring it to Palo Alto Bimmer.

If you're in San Francisco check out Phaedrus. I take my '00 M roadster there. Serious shop, mechanics are cool, they'll teach you stuff if you talk to them

I disagree - I found them to be pretty ridiculous when I went for an estimate ( him "why are you telling me what you've had serviced before?" | me "um namely so you don't do it again, prick"). Ultimately, they said they don't care what other shops have done and they wanted to replace parts that had been replaced less than 5k ago.

In SF, I prefer Euro Motor Cars in SOMA. Sokol, the owner, understands customer service, communicates with his customers and appreciates it when the customer knows a thing or two about his/her vehicle.

That said, neither shop holds a candle to PA Bimmers if you can get all the way down to the Peninsula.
