Tuned 320i vs 328i

I know y'all have probably seen this post a million times but, I recently bought a 320i and I've got 7 days to return it if I decide I want something else. I want a fairly quick daily driver and I'm torn between a FBO Stage 2 JB4 320i which should make around 260whp or just returning my car for the 328i which makes like 30 less hp stock. I've got until Tuesday to make up my mind. I do like the 320i I'm just not sure if it's worth throwing money into it just to get like 20-30 whp at most more than a stock 328i. Any opinions?

To OP, although 320i N20 can be tuned to match/surpass 328i HP/lb-ft, 328i does come with factory beefed up parts(e.g. drive shafts) that are spec'ed to that the extra HP/lb-ft.

Also, if your location is PZEV state, then a 328i N26 will come with 15 years/150k miles emission warranty, and that can be worth quite a bit past 10 years/100k miles on the car.

Yes, I too would go for the 328i as a base if you are going to bump the hp.

The regular 320i is pretty tempting ...but everything ive read says the exhaust has to be changed if you tune.
I went for the 328i with the m-sport package, its an economy based engine after all,so your olny gonna get fun, not fast no matter what you do.
It will however.. handle like a dream with just the basic m-sport suspension .
Mine is doing very low 5sec 0-60 times ,,tops out at about 150mph and turns on a dime with olny a jb4 (I stay in stage 1 until I bolt my downpipe up) and a cai.
At least im faster than the focus ST and the Hondas that always wanna play ,,,and am about even with the WRX'S . If I decide to go camaro or mustang GT hunting,,Im just gonna have to step it up,,,until then,,I play in my own field ,but have my eye on a CTS-V

Cold air intake? You're buying a cold air intake?

Does CAI hurt timing chain?

I already have the CAI from injen installed .If I wasn't in such a hurry I would have discovered that the stock intake flows plenty for even a tuned engine. All you get from ,the ingen intake is loud whooshing noises from your turbo wastegate.Very cool if your into that...but for me the money is better spent on other go fast goodies like jb4 _downpipe_intercooler and possibly an exhaust. If your gonna tune your motor,,,and add a downpipe,,do the down pipe first. You may dicover that you don't need an expensive exhaust once the downpipe is installed. It gets louder with DP and with a race type exhaust it may be down right obnoxious.Plus that's how you get tickets,,,I know ,,I just dated myself ,but its true,,,,make it sound like a rice burner and you will spend lots of time trying to talk your way out of tickets.

I have never heard anyone linking a cold air intake to timing chain issues.I would disagree with that theory 100%..the two have nothing whatsoever to do with each other

Idk, for what its worth, just the BM3 stock stage 1 tune, with maybe a muffler + res delete and making sure you get the lighting package w/o the Halogens is pretty good for a DD and can surpass a stock 328i with just that and get better gas mileage ontop of that.

BM3 (Bootmod3) = $600-645 ish can finance thru Kies Motorsports using Affirm payments.

Muffler + Resonator Delete w/ Magnaflow Blue Flame Tip = $450

So for about a $1000 or so you get the same HP figures. I got mine CPO'd from a lease return, have 40k ish on it since then bought with 32k, but i don't drive it more than 500-600 miles a mth if that. I am a young senior retired (lol)..

Hey just some info to munch on with all this popcorn. On my other Bimmer forum, one of the members there got his 2014 320i dynoed with Bootmod3 Stage 1 91 stock tune and he is putting down 266hp/323tq, whp adjusted to 212hp/259tq considering a stock 328i only puts about 226hp/230tq ish at the wheels. So for my mere $600 bucks, which i bought the bundle pack i can add more HP's later on with FBO's. I really like how it drives, take's off in any gear and this BM3 is the best mod ever for these 320's, just don't go past stage 1 to be safe...
