New engine, no crank

Just got an 91 e36 with no engine(was m50b20) and a 92 m50b25, finally got it in and tried to start it... A few sparks on the starter and the battery was drained in 5 min

Replaced the starter today, but nothing happends(no sparks and battery is not drained)
Any suggestions?

Welcome to Bimmerfest!

Start checking fuses and tracing wires, because you likely shorted one out.

No fuses, wipers goes for a half second every time i turn the key now, talked to the last owner of the engine and he told me that he just placed the 3 relays on the wire harness random before i picked it up. Cant find any info on the right way to place them

Go to the E36 Super Sticky at the top of the forum page then click on the Useful Links thread, then click on the This one went missing link.

It will get to a download of the Bentley E36 Service Manual which has full wiring diagrams for all E36s in the back section.

Solved, replaced engine-chassis ground and the starter made a coughing sound, so i cleaned every ground and power surface on the car

Found out that the old engine blew up so the entire engine bay has been covered with oil a few months before i bought it
