328i What is this ticking/knocking noise?

I drive a 1996 328i and it has a ticking/knocking noise coming from the engine bay. Does anyone know what this could be?

Video:

What I know:
- Coming from the driver side. Appears to be lower
- I notice the most vibration from the noise when I have my hand on the power steering pump
- The noise increases with the RPMs

Out of curiosity/boredom I changed out the old, black power steering fluid, but didn't notice any kind of difference. Any help is appreciated!_a_

Welcome to Bimmerfest!

That's very strange. It varies with RPM but is much slower than the RPM. Maybe the CVV?

On the 328i, there's a line from the charcoal filter in the trunk that runs up into the engine compartment to a valve that's mounted to the lower area of the left side strut tower. There's another hose that goes from the valve to the intake manifold.
The valve is electronically controlled by the ECU to open and pull vapors from the charcoal canister when the engine is running.
There's been some previous posts where the valve has failed and is randomly opening and closing causing a slow inconsistent speed ticking noise coming from the left side of the engine compartment.
The valve that controls the flap in one of the tail pipes is also located there, and I believe there's been some past posts about that valve ticking also.

Thanks for the reply! I don't have a ton of BMW experience, but when I've run into evap valves in the past they don't normally sound like this. If you can hear it in the video the thunking sound is consistent. It's actually bad enough for me to feel it in the steering wheel. Idle remains consistent which is making me think it could be something else.

Thanks for the reply! CCV is easy enough to check, so I'll give it a try. The car doesn't have the other symptoms I've read are associated with that though.

So I ran the car and was able to easily remove the oil cap and am not experiencing any other symptoms that come with a bad CCV. Anyone else have any suggestions on what this could be?

Got a better video of it here:

Any broken parts on anything that spins? Radiator fan? You can always run the engine without the belt for a minute and see if it goes away. Change with rpms?

Id put my money on the serpentine belt itself. Low frequency ticking seems in sync with the belt rotation speed from just this little clip.
