BMW Ultimate Care+

Hello

Next week I am taking delivery of a 330xi. Thirty six months 10 thousand miles per. I may exceed the mileage. All my previous cars were 5 series. I am mostly over the road and rural driving some suburban.

I am looking for points of view in purchasing the Ultimate Care + policy.

Thanks!

Over the road and mostly rural the odds are probably pretty low you'll need brakes before 36 months or 36k miles. How much are they asking for the coverage?

Thanks for your response. The price right off BMWUSA is $600.

I figured as such with the usage but I know how surprised I have been with the newer brakes not lasting as long as the old. I have been surprised at the wear on brakes on my CLK-320. I never had to replace brakes on any of my 5 series with 36/15k per.

I'm at 29k on my 2014 328i and BMW technician says I've got at least 40k more miles on the pads. If the UC+ package just covers brake pads I think you will be giving BMW Leasing a nice $600 holiday gift.

Unless you're tracking the car, you probably won't need new brakes within 30K miles. I had my front ones changed at 43K. Same goes for clutch if the car is MT. I had 220K+ miles on the original clutch when I sold my E46. You may need a 2 wiper blade inserts during that time.

IMO, it's not worth it unless you're tracking the car or regularly attending advanced car control clinics and autocross events.

From what I have seen, its $600 (list price) for adding brakes and wiper blades back to the NEW 3 year 36K maintenance.

The real sting comes in adding that 4th year / 50K mile maintenance extension which is more than 1k. In my mind the $600 is a losing proposition because most people will not go through brakes in 3 years 36K miles, so one is paying 600 for wiper blades and whatever else they took out (cabin filter maybe?).

Few questions.

1. Do you need to buy the Ultimate Care+ at the moment of delivery or can you buy it at a later point? Does the price change if you buy later?

2. Did BMW change the material in the brake pads and rotors? If not and your lease is for 30k miles (3 yrs x 10k miles/yr), then even if you slightly go over 30k miles, you should be fine and not need to replace them. Otherwise, $600 could be a bargain. Does Ultimate Care+ also include rotors? When I had 4 brake pads and 2 rotors done on my Audi A4, it was about $1200 (and this was almost 10 years ago), so I'm sure this price hasn't gone down especially for BMW.
