I have a friend in Cali Columbia. I'm thinking about taking the family down for a couple of weeks this summer - 1 in the city at his place and 1 on the Caribbean island of San Andreas at his family vacation home with his family. Worth $12,000 or so? I'm not quite as well off as BJ and I have a daughter who will need tuition starting in August '12, possibly at MIT.
Is this a 'you only live once' moment? Anyone ever spend this kind of cash on a vaca and regretted it?
One thing for sure, when I dropped $20K on the month long family ED trip last summer it was WELL worth it......
MIT is what, 50K a year now? Your daughter should max out student loans, and see about scholarships and assistance once she makes it through Freshman year. MIT gets all the press, but there are less expensive schools which give an equivalent education. No doubt though that MIT on your curriculum vitae opens doors.
Go to Columbia, spend less money. How do you come up with $12K for two weeks when you are staying with friends? This world traveler can't see that kind of cost.
Round trip to Cali - $1700x4=6800Round trip from Cali-San Andreas - $500x4=2000
Spending money - 3200 (free boarding at my friend's places.)
$12K, maybe $14K.......
I think you need to shop around a little better for flights. One of my techs is from the hills outside Cali, he visits when safe. His tickets are always a lot less (from Logan). Or are you going business class? If not, get a new travel agent.
I just picked up a RT ticket to Warsaw via Geneva for August, on SwissAir for $960. With snacks!
This looks awfully "Che Guevara." Are you promoting a Socialist movement within this thread? Any discussion of Yugos, Skudas, Dacias, Trabants will quickly get moved.
BJ and everyone else I sent PMs to about DSX..and to DSX.
As DSX said, we agreed on alot of things after much correspondence. I knew that I would have to address this, in the open, as theres about 5 people out there that I tried to solicit for their assistance. I'm sorry I included you in a matter that should have remained between the individuals involved.
DSX, thanks for a fine repsonse, I don't think I specifically apologized, please accept my apology.
BJ, you're still one of my favorite posters, can you please submit more status kill stories?!
My fortune teller told me last February, there will be an upcoming day in April that I will rue. She was right. Amazing how a little application of crazy glue can rue-en one's day.
I had to turn in my license today for 30 days...No driving till 7 MAY. :bawling: I should stick to speeding on the Bahn, but that back twisties are just so fun! I was about 30MPH over. So anyway last night I took the long way home, took the bahn home, missed my exit on purpose and then came back. I savored the ride as I blew by other vehicles putting along at 130MPH Damn this is going to be a slow month. At least I have 2 weeks of leave so that I don't have to inconvenience the wife or friends, and now I can drink at every outing since I cannot drive! Upside to everything
Sorry for being late to the party, but it seems as if I have missed quite a lot of the conversation here. I started reading the first few pages and the last few- but I do not see a correlation between them. Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do!
