Looking for a full Tranny rebuilt kit

I've searched old threads that have links that don't work or are no longer available.

Im looking a full rebuild kit for an automatic 528 and 540. I blew the 528 tranny while I was test driving the suspension I just rebuilt. I think it is either the tq converter input/output shaft or its the drum that has snapped. Either way I have no forward or reverse.

The 540 always puts it back in Trans fail safe mode and ive troubleshot to realize that the clutch plates are out of its wearable limits that keep throwing it into 3rd gear.

I just need to overhaul both and get them running. I am having no luck finding a complete rebuild kits for these BMW. Any help would be appreciated

Have you tried contacting Steve Dose

Or are you looking for a Canadian Supplier?

Check here:

Most (if not all) BMW are fitted with ZF transmissions. You should be able to find what you need there: https://aftermarket.zf.com/us/en/aft...transmissions/

2 BMW's and I found the weak point in both.....

As for where the supplier is whether in Canada or USA doesn't matter I just need to get the parts on order. Steve's shop seems to be a repair shop and not a supplier of parts but I emailed him anyways to see what he has.
ZF transmissions site is not user friendly it would seem or I am not good at locating the kits on the site.

Guess you missed the 1st link where he says he is a regional distributor for ZF.

A distributor can also be a repair shop.

Might want to update your car info on your profile with the correct information. Having a E39 and listing a VW as your car from 2011 in a BMW forum doesn't make for quick replies and wastes time in asking the same "what model car" over and over.

Best way to find out is to get under the car and find out what color sticker is on the bottom of the transmission pan.

Green indicates a GM 5L40-E (A5S360R) in my car.

Looking for a full Tranny rebuilt kit

Not easy to figure out but I think your transmission is the A4S270/310R. Hard to find a rebuild kit. Realoem.com doesnít even have much helpful info.

Rather than spending a few hours back and forth on a forum about what it could be, get under the car and read the label. Better than being an armchair mechanic

At this point i had the car on my hoist for a month rebuilding the suspension. I didn't think to look at the tranny at that time because i didn't expect this to happen. I have another car im doing an burnt electrical issue and it isn't mobile. So since the car sits to low for me to get the serial number i have to be a armchair mechanic.

Well if you have a selfie stick and smartphone you can think outside the box, get creative and video it. Unless, of course yours is too low to even do something like that.

Not even verifying what tranny you have before ordering a rebuild kit from across the border with import taxes isn't a wise move.

But hey, what do I know, I've only been working on my 540 for 17 yrs.

Maybe it's time to go back to VW. Good luck with it.

Apology accepted but I am not quite sure what you want from members at this point. Let's recap:

1) I gave you the link to Dose BMW along with information stating he's a distributor and you claim he's just a repair shop
2) Within the link, there is his direct phone number and you choose to email him
3) dubiez and I both gave you direct links to ZF and you claim it's hard to navigate
4) it was suggested to get under the car to verify the label and you claim it's too low, better to be an armchair mechanic
5) it was suggested to change your car from VW in your profile to the exact model/yr of E39s and 20 hrs later, it's still VW
6) You claim the transmission is the weak point in these cars... it certainly is not unless you abuse it. The cooling system is the weak point in all E39 car as everyone knows.

What exactly do you want us to do? Fly to Canada and get under your car to give you the answer?

FYI, the tranny and differential are not always accurate on the net decoders especially with Canadian cars. I know this b/c for the longest time, I was told I had a 2.81 differential until one day I got under the car and looked at the number and found out it was a 3.15. There are also manufacturing months were different tranny could have been installed. The only way to be for sure is to look at the label.

Seriously, you got to meet members half way if you're going to get any help. Even if we gave you the information for what it SHOULD be, wouldn't you want to verify we're right before ordering hundreds of dollars in parts subject to import duty?!

Sure i can understand your point.
1. On dose site i can't find anything beside services. I have emailed him and I also phoned but no answer and no voice mail?

2. As i said in point 1 there was nobody there and no answering machine.

3. On ZF site ive tried to d/l the catalog with no luck ive tried to register and they rejected it. So at what point do realize this isn't as easy to navigate?

4. There could be things said here about this comment but it's not worth it. :headshake:

5. I'll change my car

6. I literally was joking about that but to your defense it could come across as something else.

I will try Dose again..

Not sure where you're navigating to but I was able to download the 5HP24 catalog as well as other catalogs without registering within 1 min of clicking this link

https://aftermarket.zf.com/us/en/aft.../pdf-catalogs/

As Dose website clearly states M-F 9am-6pm yesterday was a holiday both in Canada and USA. It just turned 9am PDT 10 mins ago....

I understand. Some people just need to be spoon fed everything instead of reading thru the provided links and websites. Must be your weak point.
