Any ideas why I can't get this to work. Added all the files to my flash drive and still can't get it to open up after plugging into both USB ports in car.

I haven't given it a shot yet, but I will give it a try this afternoon.

I've downloaded all 5 .rar files and extracted them using 7Zip. There were two things that I think will need to be done differently from my instructions from a few years back:

1. I had to unpack all 5 files individually (previous instructions said to only unpack 1st file and would automatically do all 4 packages)
2. I noticed that only the first USB folder has both 'pkgdb' folder and the config.nfm file. I'm assuming that I leave the config.nmf file in the root, and just replace the pkgdb folders as the software uploads each folder (as per the use 1 USB drive alternate instructions)

Keep in mind, when I last did the update in 2016, there were only "4 USBs" in the update. Here were the instructions I received:
Instructions - 4 USB Drives:

1) Download all 5 Map .rar parts to same folder on PC.
2) Open only part1.rar with 7-Zip (or any other archive extraction program such as WinZip or WinRAR) and Extract the map. 7-Zip will automatically process in the background all 5 parts of the .rar archive.
3) Upon Extraction, you will have a NAVD_000004D3_255_003_176 folder, and inside it, 4 Sub-folders named USB 1, USB 2, USB 3, and USB 4.
4) Open USB 1 Sub-folder and copy the "pkgdb" folder and the "config.nfm" file to the root of your 1st 8 Gb or larger Fat32 Formatted USB Thumb Drive.
5) Open USB 2 Sub-folder and copy the "pkgdb" folder and the "config.nfm" file to the root of your 2nd 8 Gb or larger Fat32 Formatted USB Thumb Drive.
6) Open USB 3 Sub-folder and copy the "pkgdb" folder and the "config.nfm" file to the root of your 3rd 8 Gb or larger Fat32 Formatted USB Thumb Drive.
7) Open USB 4 Sub-folder and copy the "pkgdb" folder and the "config.nfm" file to the root of your 4th 8 Gb or larger Fat32 Formatted USB Thumb Drive.

Folder structure on each of the 4 USB Thumb Drives will be as follows:
pkgdb
config.nfm

8) Insert USB 1 in Glovebox USB Port (not Center Armrest USB Port), and wait about 30 seconds until Prompt to update Maps appears on Screen.
9) Proceed with update, and at next screen, enter your Map Update FSC Code with iDrive Controller.
10) Follow onscreen directions to complete Map update.

Instructions - 1 USB Drive (Alternate):
An alternative would be to use a single 32 Gb flash drive setup for USB 1 as detailed above, and also copying the entire USB 2, USB 3, and USB 4 folders to same USB drive. After installing part 1 delete the pkgdb folder from the root and move the pkgdb folder from USB 2 folder to the root and install part 2. After installing part 2, delete the pkgdb folder from the root and move the pkgdb folder from USB 3 folder to the root and install part 3. After installing part 3, delete the pkgdb folder from the root and move the pkgdb folder from USB 4 folder to the root and install part 4.

*NOTE 1: You cannot use an external hard drive in lieu of a USB Flash Drive (flash memory). The car's USB port will not provide enough power to spin the platters of an external hard drive.

*NOTE 2: Map install to car will take approximately 45 minutes. The car motor should be running to avoid battery drain.
Has anyone had any luck updating these yet?

Mine is X5 and I used 4 USBs, and plugged into the USB port in the glove box. Centre console one may not work.

Hope this helps..

Can you write up more detailed instructions on what you did to get it to work?

I think my issue is that the formatting of the USB is wrong... but haven't given that a try yet.

What you wrote above is the exact step by step that I did and it worked.

Maybe it's just me but I don't understand the extract of the files... I'm trying the one USB setup, can someone explain how to copy the files with more detail. 5 Files but on only four folders? Thx

FYI, I'm new to this...

Update in Motion?

Question to the group. I have the FSC and my flash drive loaded and ready to go, but can I make the update while driving or do I have to be parked and not in motion?

When I updated my maps last year...I did it on a Saturday morning/afternoon where I knew I'd be driving around for approx 30-45 minutes. That way I knew that the update wouldn't be interrupted prior to it being completed.

Just to be clear...I entered the FSC code while idling in my driveway, then inserted the USB drive prior to taking off.

Or if you have a battery maintainer...you can hook it up to the jump start terminals in the engine bay. I'm sure some don't do any of the above...but I prefer NOT to have a control module power down due to my car's battery power reserves are being depleted/drained. I've read to many threads where a control module has been corrupted when coding or updating because the car's battery was depleted due to it being the only power source.

Is this link valid for North America NEXT (NBT) also ? If not, does anyone have the link for that version?

No...just like it says in the quote...that link is for the PREMIUM maps (which were used with the earlier CIC version of iDrive).

If you want the NBT (next best thing) maps...then go back to the f10 5 series home page...when I just looked at the time of this reply, the 4th thread down past the "sticky" threads is the sister thread to this one that has a link for the NBT/NEXT Nav maps.

My experience

Just finished upgrading a CIC Premium E70 X5. Here are my notes:

I downloaded the 2020 maps from the g-drive link - big thx to the host.

The RAR archive has 5 parts. 7zip and Keka found all the parts and extracted to one folder about 28gigs in size. I did not need to extract each part of the RAR archive.

I then copied the pkg folder and config file to a 32gig USB and inserted it into the USB port in the glove box. I would delete any partitions you have on your USB and start over. My USB partition was FAT32 (as required) and was a primary partition, but was not marked active. Not sure you can even mark it active, but thought I would mention that.

Once you insert the USB Drive into the glove box port the nav will ask if you want to update and then you insert your FSC code.

Because I like to push things, I let the nav shutdown a couple times during the update to see what happens. On the next reboot/wake-ups it will resume where it left off (assuming the USB Drive is still inserted). Anyway, just leave the car on and maybe stop any music playback from the hdd to enhance the update speed. I only mention this so people don't freak out if something happens during the update.

Overall, pretty painless. Thanks to all the super users that put all this together!
