X1 F48 (2016 - current)
Second generation F48 BMW X1 builds on the success of it's predecessor. Increases in power, interior and cargo space keep it a leader in the small SUV field.

New subforum mod

Hey there!

Just dropping a note and introducing myself to this area of Bimmerfest. I am taking over the basic moderation tasks on this subforum, as of yet one had not been assigned. I also moderate the i3/i8/G12 areas and share mod duties in the coding subforums

I am currently a BMW Level 1 technician, specializing in electrical repair and diagnostics. I am F48 certified, went to training for it last year Been working on BMWs at dealers for 5 years now.

I am here to help, so if you have any questions or input feel free to shoot me a PM! If you see posts that need attention, feel free to report them using the little report button in the top right of the posting box, that will alert me to check out that post.

-E- Oh! Almost forgot, my wife is replacing her 2015 i3 with a 2017 X1 in the next month or so First planned mod is coding for some feature changes/additions, after that I am hoping to get some 17" wheels that fit and then some nice aggressive tires on them for our muddy season/outings.

It is a 28iX, Mediterranean Blue with Black interior. DA, DA+, Prem, Cold weather and Tech packages.

Very cool ... I hadn't even thought about coding my wife's car.. anything special to change? The only thing that I was surprised is that she doesn't have a 1 touch up on the window.. only down? Now I'm going to have to look for code mods.. lol

Nothing life-changing, just some small things we enjoy on the I3. Text messages on the CID, door handle puddle lights coming on when vehicle is in reverse, small things like that. Maybe some lighting tweaks, part of me wants to try and get the multi-color ambient lighting working in the X1 like it does in the X5s and 7ers.

Hmm I thought the messages already popped up on my wife's car, is it an android vs ios thing? (she has android). I do remember my friend and my brother being able to get multi colors, and then it was coded out after some update/service a few years back..

I will have to take a gander at it in the F48, it may already have enhanced Bluetooth with office functions. On the I3 it is not native, but all the hardware is there.

Hi fellow PNW resident. In your BMW tech training, do you see some major difference between the traditional BMW and this Mini based model?

On the F48, not much. It is a BDC body electronics system and based on the same Mini UKL2 platform(so slightly taller). Very similar to the F56.

Prior to that, we saw pretty distinct differences between the Minis and BMWs. Anymore, the line is getting blurred... The I3 models handle very well, almost like a Mini in the city.
