F22 / F23 2 Series (2014 - Current)
The 2 Series coupe is the replacement for the E82/E88 1 series coupe. Production starts in November 2013 on the 228i (N20) and M235i (N55) coupes. Look for them in dealerships in February 2014. The convertible F23 2 series will follow in the fall of 2014.

Accidental rev in freezing weather on cold start

Hi,

So I jump in the car this morning and it's about 30 degrees outside. Start up the engine and it idles for maybe 10 secs, then instead of pressing the brake pedal, I press the gas. Before I realized what I did the engine revved up to around 4500 rpm :-/

I know the engine is not toast, but is this likely to cause any long term damage as a one-off?

Also, what damage/harm could this potentially do to the engine and how does that actually manifest? Is it just likely to cause potential issues at like 120k miles or something when the engine is much older?

I wouldn't worry too much about it, but I wouldn't make it a regular practice. If the car has been driven regularly, there still would have been an adequate amount of oil film between any bearing surfaces until the oil pressure builds once again. The oil wouldn't have had a prolonged time to totally drain back into the oil pan. Just a little "woopsie", nothing more.
