And away we go....

Just boarded our flight RDU to Paris. After a few days there we will train to Munich. Picking up an M4 on 9/17. I'll try to comply with a picture if I can manage. Maybe a trip report when I get home if I can make myself do it.

Almost forgot to post. Picked up 9/17 and, as usual, it was an amazing experience. They did comment how many fewer Americans are coming which is sad. The car is great but I've only put about 150 miles on it.

Beautiful ride. Unfortunately they just need to look across the street at HQ to wonder why there are less Americans coming. BMW castrated the program by removing the economic benefit. Now you have to weigh the experience against the drawbacks (having to wait for redelivery, etc.) and it doesn't make as much sense for many. Add in that you can now rent most models at the Welt to have the experience of taking a BMW at Autobahn speeds (and the benefit of beating on a car that isn't your own) and it really becomes a hard sell.

Wrong headquarters building: BMW AG didn't change a thing. The terms of the US program are set by BMW NA.

I would still think that AG has the final say in all matters, no? Hard to imagine a major change like this not at least having the blessing of AG...

Either way, point still stands that the economic benefit was gutted therefore reducing the appeal.

No. The "discount" came out of the pricing structure between NA and its dealers. (NA sells cars to dealers who sell to us.) That arrangement is entirely up to NA, subject of course to keeping the mothership happy. Also, IIRC an ED was essentially a direct sale from NA that bypassed dealer allocations (thus benefiting AG and NA more than the dealer). AG probably tipped off NA about the rising number of sign-and-return customers, after which NA (likely with major prodding from large dealer groups) changed the terms to stop competing with their own dealer network.

Yup. Which was the point.
