E63 / E64 6 Series (2004 - 2010)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

Member intro. E63 650i problems

Hi, I have been presenting problems with my e63 650i. It has turned off while driving on a couple of occasions. other times he just doesn't want to turn on and I have to wait a few minutes and turn on. I scanned it for the last time 3 days ago and I got the code 507B EGS. "Malfuntion in drive" came out on the screen. My mechanic has told me that I must replace the complete gear lever module and that is how my problem with that fault ends. I need help because of bad diagnoses I have spent too much money. It is an E63 650i 2008. Thank you very much for the support.

It is really hard to say that for sure, how many miles are on your car. Many people have had this code, but the bridge seal will leak by causing problems, such as loss of pressure to the valve body. While draining the fluid, measure how much comes out, you should have around 6.5 qts drain out. If the fluid is less, low fluid level can cause hard shifts, & other problems. Fail safe mode is usually related to the Mechatronic adapter seal. If you have over 75k miles & having the fail safe warning, have the adapter seal & fluid changed. Once the 2 items are serviced, things should be ok. The solenoids can also be inspected & tested while the valve body is dropped. If any of the solenoids don't measure the proper resistance, replace them. Below is a Sonnax Webinar that will help you better understand how the valve body operates.

The car has 64k miles. Is that what may be causing the car to go into Neutral and the engine goes off while I'm driving? There are times when the problem happens since I want to leave the parking lot and I will start the car. I press brake and press the Start button and nothing. Recently when I put Reverse the change is very hard and you hear a blow in the transmission. So do you recommend check the transmission fluid and the solenoids? and forget the idea be the gearshift?

The 2nd fault is usually from the Mechatronic Adapter seal, allowing fluid to bypass the valve body. If you are trying to start the engine & it want fire off, the IVM module is probably starting to fail. This is an easy repair, & the part is around 125.00.
