G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

2017 540I Brake Pad replacement

Hey guys - I did a quick search and didn't find any previous forums on this subject, if I missed it I'm sorry to start a new one. Was just told by the dealer I need to replace the front brake pads on the 540 with 24K miles - lease is up in October - anybody know if they check if you replace with OEM pads? Also - I have a shop that will do the labor so if anyone has a place they like to order the OEM pads please share. - Thanks in advance

Not sure what the terms of your lease are.

If you need to have bmw parts see if your dealer will match the getbmwparts.com price.

If you can do aftermarket get akebono pads. I like fcpeuro for their lifetime replacement deal but if you’re not keeping the car you might find them on tire rack or amazon cheaper.

Is it just the dealer saying you need to replace them or does iDrive also say you need to replace them? Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but if iDrive doesn't say you need to replace them I don't see why you would need to... especially with lease up in October. As BMW won't cover pad replacement in their upgraded maintenance plan until iDrive mentions replacement is needed. So I can't see how they could have a double standard in your lease contract without angering people who purchased the plan and ended up being told at lease end they need to buy pads...

Dealers will lie about brakes. On my MB C300 I sold recently to jump to the BMW I had a dealer tell me my pads were worn to the sensor and needed to be swapped. I went to another dealer due to better pricing and they looked at me like I had two heads when the shop foreman explained to me my pads were only half worn and they wouldn't sell me pads because they weren't needed at all. I put another 1.5-2 years and 20K+ miles on those pads and still no brake sensor light tripped... So obviously, the first dealership lied and I never went back to them.

Hey Guys - thanks for the advice - here is the update - ended up having the front brake pads replaced at the dealer - retail was 750$ but got them to do it for 500$ total including tax. Priced around town and the lowest I could get was $450 so not worth going all over town. Turns out I also needed to replace the rear tires - which are 400-500 per tire at the dealer - found a guy on craigslist that sells patched tires for 190$ each - 95% wear on them - picked up two tires for 380$... more will be revealed.
