E63 / E64 6 Series (2004 - 2010)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

2008 650i Coolant Sensor

Happy New Year,

Went to put coolant in the 650 and noticed the red indicator stick was sitting sideways in the tank. I tried to carefully remove it but it sank to the bottom. All that is left is the flat white float it attached to.

Q1. If I remove the tank and get the red indicator out can I reattach it? OR

Q2. Must I replace the tank.

It does not leak.

GOT THE ANSWER, I NEED A NEW TANK

Thanks
Harry

Here are some cheaper expansion tanks, that will save you some money. BEHR makes the BMW part.

I actually got a new OEM unit when mine cracked for under a hundred quid.

A VERY rare occasion something was cheaper at the dealer.

While your coolant is “dry” take the time to swap out the plastic return line that runs across the front slam panel. I used 10mm ID anno’d aluminium.

You can see it in the pic:

Thanks, a bit less expensive on this side of the pond, paid $55.00 for a quality piece. I replaced the other piece about 6 months ago when that sprung a leak.

Thanks
