Hey Mike, thanks for the opportunity to post #976!

There are PLENTY of Cubs fans out here!...especially this time of year...not too many are depressed yet...in fact yesterday at this time I was amongst about 13K of them at a spring game!

I want to think this is THE year but I have been a Cubs fan for too long...

Ahhh...hope springs eternal for the ever faithful Cubs fans...just to have their hearts crushed at some point during the season. The only question is whether or not the Red Sox fans get their hearts ripped out first or if it will be the Cubs first.

I think AZ is like Florida...no natives and half the people are retirees.

From the first game played while Wrigley's ivy is still brown 'til the first summertime explosion of a corked bat and on to the playoff killing fan interference the Cubs fans stay faithful. I am impressed.

Hopefully April!

Wow, dude, D'backs rotation looks scary...as in BAD...Shane is just plain horrible and Elmer is Fudd! They had better score 10 a game if the Big Ugly or Webb isn't in there.

Plus every ball hit to left will be at least a double with GoneArmZo out there!

Dessens sucks! So much for his off season conditioning plan. He still can't go more than 5. They need to relegate him to the bullpen. Steve Sparks tossed a nice game yesterday I think he'll get the nod for the 5th starter. I haven't seen Shane Reynolds but from what I've read he's been getting rocked pretty hard. Gonzo's arm might not be so good but he's wearing it out at the plate. I think with Sexson backing him up we should score a lot more runs than last year.

I am a Gonzo fan and he is a hitter but if he throws the 'bo out he is done...probably for his career...and I bet the odds are 50/50 it will happen in the first half...and even if he doesn't he will have to hit about .500 to make up for all the bases and runs he will give up being the huge liability he is in left.

FYI, I think Shane's ERA is over 16 so far...I know spring means little but geesh...

I don't know, maybe he should have opted for off season surgery.

A 16 era is cause for concern, even if it is only spring training. I wish John Patterson would get his sh*t together. I guess it doesn't matter, no matter how you slice it, the 3, 4 & 5 slots in the rotation are shaky. I say if the pitching really starts to suck they start bringing up the youngsters from the minors. It's not like they can do any worse.

Steve Sparks' numbers look pretty good, a lot better than Dessens who is the alledged number three guy. I'd almost rather they go with Patterson and bench Dessens. Maybe Reynolds will pull it together, who knows.

Actually I was surprised that Elmer was only at 5.25, or pretty close to form for him.

Also, wasn't Reynolds pitching for the Astros when we were like in high school?
