E82 / E87 / E88 / F20 1 Series (2008 - 2014)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by a naturaly aspirated inline 6 in the 128 or the turbo twin power inline 6 rocket sled 135.

Thanks Teej, I saw them early today too. It looks like they have already sent the press pictures to the magazines.

The official pictures are going to be released to the public this weekend, but I am guessing we'll see them earlier

Another one... It says that interior quality should be on par with the Audi A3.

Seems like iDrive will also be offered, at least as an option.

Is that a "Start" button to the left of the center vents on the dash ???

You know this is the first of the recent generation of BMWs to have a protruding bumper? The new Z4, 5, 6, and 7 series all have the bumper flush with the grill.

Looks good Jon, when can I place a deposit?

That, BTW, is the only part of the Z4 design I have not grown to like.

Awesome design, I wish they made a small sedan also instead of a 5-door

People are saying this car wasn't Bangled? It looks to me like he had some significant influence in it. Look at all the lines, just like the Z4... Anyway, I think it looks nice.

The center console is 12 tilted towards the driver, AFAIK.

Hmm, hate to say it, but it's not too bad. Of course we won't GET this one! I wonder if the interior will have the X3's crap quality though.

Dammit. The manual AND auto boxes are both *six-*speed - even with the four-pot petrol engines - and most engines gain bhp compared to their equivalents in the 3er.

The 120d reaches 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.1 sec. That's ~7.8 sec to an nice, round 60. Given that BMW underestimates the performance of the diesels in particular, that makes it a pretty quick car for the money.

Shame about the standard-fit run-flats, though.

So...

1) It does have iDrive,
2) Is that thing really is a start button?
3) I guess they moved the window buttons to the left like in the 5er,
4) Is the NAV touch screen?

Overall, as a package, I like it. In fact.... have one in the US in 2 years when my lease is up... and BMW has doubled their chances of keeping me as a customer. Yes, there are a couple features I don't like individually, but I've yet to see a car that I like 100% of anyway.

I'll take it as shown (5 door), but I would really like to see a coupe and a 3 door hatch. Now, if only we'd get them here. (I have no real interest in a 1er sedan.)

I kind of like the looks of it.

My thoughts...
1) In a car that small, do you really need PDC?
2) The interior doesn't look that bad, I just hope the materials are a better quality than what is out now
3) I-Drive!...I want buttons!
4) I like the styling much better than any of the new designs, but am I the only one that thinks the headlights almost give it a bug-eyed look? Like someone just shoved something up its tail pipe? (Hey, doc you using the whole hand back there?)

Too bad I'm not young and single anymore...that could be a fun car if I didn't have a family to lug around.

Has BMW made a statement that this will or will not come to the US?
It looks nice, IMO., though I'm really waiting to see what the M2 will be like.

BMW has said that the US will NOT get the 5-door.

Which is the only one I might want.

Again, it figures.

WOW There is a Start/Stop button on the dash...

No more key to start the car. I am not sure how I feel about that. I am all for new techology but I also like the visceral feeling of starting a car with a key. It is just something that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

Overall I like the design though I think that the center console has a VW (Passat in particular) look/feel to it.

A couple more comments...

-The interior is pretty cdecent but I certainly hope that i-drive is OPTIONAL.
-That steering wheel reminds me of the wheel in my car, the E36 M3 3-spoke wheel.
-I especially like the return to the driver oriented center console. That was one of my major complaints re: the E46 (and later) interiors.
-The front looks a bit too bug-eyed and the sides are a bit too busy, but the hatch area is, IMO, well executed and there aren't any glaring (and grotesque) style excesses as there have been on the E60, E63, E65 and Z4.

Now we just need a 5-door M1 to make it to the US. I'm not holding my breath.

Sigh. I still can't come to terms with "flame surfacing." It just looks contrived to me.

I like the interior, however, does anyone else think the center stack controls for HVAC, radio, etc, looks a little "econobox?"

That front 3/4 shot makes it look too much like a PT Cruiser.

Ill pass on the 5 door.
