F22 / F23 2 Series (2014 - Current)
The 2 Series coupe is the replacement for the E82/E88 1 series coupe. Production starts in November 2013 on the 228i (N20) and M235i (N55) coupes. Look for them in dealerships in February 2014. The convertible F23 2 series will follow in the fall of 2014.

Mineral gray metallic BMW paint

I ordered touch up paint from BMW, B39 Mineral gray metallic it did not match at all did match close to the wheel color.
The dealer even checked the vin number to confirm the color code.
This was straight from BMW.

Where are you getting touch up paint?

Paintscratch and AutomotiveTouchup are two sources used by BMW owners.

you have to really shake the touchup paint especially metallic touch up paint, because it has a tendency to separate. Even if you shake well before use, you may find it still separates out and that it doesn't match, since metallic paint is notoriously difficult to match. Understand that paint is mixed in bulk then you get a couple ounces in a touchup stick, and like mixing paint even if you get the ratios correct to get the color, they are still within a margin of error. So, even though the color combo and metallic flecks may be correct in bulk, your little touch up stick may be a little off. If you are doing a little chip fill then you may get less or more metallic flecks, etc, which can affect how the paint looks after dry. Last, if you didn't a primer stick, that can also impact how the paint looks, too. Don't know if the change in part number for B39 had any impact either.

I have a BMW touch up kit and Dr Colorchip kit.
At first I thought my BMW Platinum gray metallic touchup paint was off so I kept shaking and it was all good after that.
Same with my daughters Space Grey touchup.

The touch up kit has to be shaken for a long time. I dab a blob on a sandwich bag in my hand and use a 2/0 artist brush.
Dab it and get excess off on the baggie then hit your spots. A little at a time.
If you don't like it wipe it off with Klean Strip prep-all and start over.
You should have some anyway to prep the spots before touching up.

Dr Colorchip works really good. It takes a bit to get the hang of it.
The Sealact stuff is there polish, smoother sealant juice that takes a minute with light pressure but the results are great.

I forgot to say, use blue shop towels for your Prep-all wipe.

Thanks.
I did shake it about 2 minutes with the ball rattling. I think it was miss labeled as it is a deep black not gray.

was it dry or wet? Again, metallic paint is notoriously tough to match. Even if you got say a full panel sprayed, it could look different than the rest of the car (e.g. lighter or darker depending on how the metallic flakes line up, sort of like if you rub velour one direction and then back the other way). With a touch up stick, you may get more or less sparkle which may impact how it looks too. Did the dealer parts shop swap out another B39?

The car is a light gray, and both times the BMW dealer ordered B39 the Mineral gray metallic from BMW it is so dark it looks black. I'm just looking to touch up a few stone chips on the front hood and bumper. But it would stand out like a black magic marker was used. They were both tested on a metal plate let dried and compared with and without clear coat.
No difference between the color.
May have to see if a body shop can match it.
Thanks
