Electrical problems

Hi I drive a 2006 BMW X5 e53 and recently ive ran into a few electrics problems. I was at a horse show recently and after it finished I got in the car to drive home and when I turn the key I get Trans Failsafe/Fuel Injector come up on the dash. So the engine started and lasted about 2mins then died and when I turned the key again I got nothing no dashboard lights no engine turning over nothing and the temp gauge goes right up into the red. Ive taken it to a garage where it got left for a week they said they hooked it up to diagnostics and there are no error codes and nothing else wrong with it. So i got back into it and it started first time but as soon as I turned it off again and tried again nothing no lights no turn over temp gauge up into red the Mechanic mentioned the main ECU could be gone and I know its gonna cost a fortune to fix if it is other than that the Mechanic couldnt figure it out and I know the dealership or a Specialist might know but just wanted some or any advice before I take it there.

Welcome to Bimmerfest!

I moved your posting to the E53 forum (X5, 1999-2006) where you will get model-specific help.

Take it to a BMW specialist. They should have the diagnostic equipment to determine what's going on. A general mechanic shop won't have the BMW-specific scanners and software to get an accurate picture of the system faults.

Try a new ignition switch. They cause all sorts of funny electrical gremlins.
