stumbles before warming up

On my 3.0 2001 X5, when I start the car it will idle around 700-800 rpms and then ever few seconds, the rpms will drop about 100 like a misfire. If I put it in gear, sometimes it will just stall. This has started happening in the last two weeks and is consistent. Once the engine warms up to about the 1/4 mark, it runs fine with no issues. Also, when it is happening, if I hold the rpms up about idle, say 1500 or so, it still drops the rpms so it isn't the idle control valve.
One more thing, it hasn't thrown any codes at all. I've checked for pending codes and nothing there either.

Last year I replaced all the coil packs and plugs.

Any ideas?

Hi there,

Check your DISA value.... if broken or vacuum leak, then engine is starved of air and it will choke up and die. Run a quick search in the forums.

Good luck.

Rick

Thanks Rick. I did check the Disa this weekend (forgot to mention that). It was fine.

Solved! Turns out it the Can Bus decoder for my aftermarket android radio went bad. Removing the device immediately fixed the issue with my rpms dropping and causing stalls when the engine was cold.
