F22 / F23 2 Series (2014 - Current)
The 2 Series coupe is the replacement for the E82/E88 1 series coupe. Production starts in November 2013 on the 228i (N20) and M235i (N55) coupes. Look for them in dealerships in February 2014. The convertible F23 2 series will follow in the fall of 2014.

2016 228i Drivetrain Malfunction

I recently had my fob lost/stolen at a valet parking 2 nights ago and had to wait over the weekend to get the fob replaced this morning (at the valet’s expense). Everything was fine driving it straight home but after getting back in to drive this evening I had a warning for a “drivetrain malfunction” and something along the lines of “continued driving possible”. When I turned the car on and off the warning came up again and after a few more times the check engine light is just staying on. I’ve searched all over and can’t find anything except generic possibilities related to this warning. Does anyone know of related issues with this year and model? I will definitely be taking it to a dealership ASAP but I only have ~28K mi so it’s bothering me not knowing in the meantime. I’ve checked the diagnostics available through the car and everything else checks out. I also had a full tank of gas (premium only) when this occurred. I do have the M sport package (though I doubt that would have any effect on the engine).2

First thing that came to my mind was did the valet take your car out for a thrill ride, don’t think any of them will fess up. Might be related to your lost key some how - have you checked under the seats ,etc? Could also be just a coincident, take it in to have the codes checked.

I ended up having a DME failure (thankfully covered under warranty).
