Another issue I noticed that seemed odd: I would almost always get a DSC error when leaving work and taking a sweeping shallow right turn at WOT. I'm guessing it was an issue with wheel speed sensor, because it wasn't sharp enough to have wheelspin, and it wasn't like I was drifting. Again, no idea if this was due to the package options (wheels, suspension, diff, etc.), my car, or just the kryptonite road bend.

Either wheel speed sensor or steering angle sensor. I'm betting the latter (my old ZHP did that, and I ran into a number of E46s with the same issue with the SAS as the root cause). Mine failed around 100k miles iirc. The cold weather definitely exasperated the issue

It would be interesting to chart which model e46s they were, for reference. I do recall you and a few others have been around since the old days. Remember the huge fights about if the ZHP was even significant enough from the ZSP or even base 330 to be referred to differently? Now it's almost treated like a JV M3. IMHO, it was/is a car almost justified to wear an ///M in front of the 330_, much like the 635CSi was and is treated.

I don't remember all the models... There were a few M3s, my old ZHP, but I'm pretty sure I've come across some "regular" 3ers with the issue.

As for how different the ZHP is... at least based on the parts catalog, the only real difference is the control arm. Having driven both, I'm pretty the shocks were stiffer; they may've quietly superceded all sport shocks to the ZHP part number at some point. I do agree the car is worthy of an "M" badge in the same vane as the 635CSi or even the M535i. The differences are slight, but added together, they do make the car feel a lot better. I suspect if the ZHP were released today it would be called a "330is" (kind of like the 335is).

I just retrofitted the entire AL/Bosch assembly.

That's quite the sexy car in your drive way!. So..... I have to ask. What's the mod plans?

p.s. I got my car back yesterday also. Feels like a brand new car. New engine mounts, transmission mounts/bushings whatever you wana call em, new diff with new diff mounts. Fixed the alignment on my bumper. It drives nice!.
Only last thing to do now is exhaust manifold leak. But eh not to worried about that. I guess it'll give me a chance to put in headers w/ cat delete

You can make a custom mount for it. If I can do it, anyone can

I also like this gauge pod setup. I plan to do this one on my car for boost and oil temp gauges.

Ya'll know how sometimes when you wish for something for a long long time and then you finally get it and it isn't as awesome as you thought it would be? Well this car is NOTHING like that at all! It is everything I imagined and then some. I love driving it, it is so choice. I can't wait to start making it "mine".

Love your spirit Shad! Not very many people get a busy thread of 350 posts for getting a 'new to me' car. You must have done something very right along the way!! Keep up the good stuff and rock on in the free world!
