F85 X5 M and F86 X6 M (2016 - Current)
The BMW X5 M and X6 M are high-performance derivative of the X5 and X6. Introduced at the 2014 LA Auto Show and appearing in dealerships in 2015. Both modeles are powered by BMW's S63tu twin turbo charged V8 making 567 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque, the most power for any BMW xDrive vehicle.

Finally had the chance to test drive a F85. I haven't driven the E70m. Even though I put the steering and the suspension and throttle in sport mode and even sport plus mode, I was still not used to the electric steering. The sport modes made it feel artificially heavy. I still prefer my E70 hydraulic steering. I don't understand when owners says that the lighter electric steering is more responsive. I actually disagree. The car itself has nicer interior and much faster. Although I wish the V8 sounded deeper and not so high pitched. Does it take awhile to get used to the steering or is this a deal breaker for some buyers?

Btw, what is the m version of the E70 called? If the F15 m version is called F85.

Exhaust Mod - Quick & Easy

This may cause others to weigh in, but the exhaust mod on the F85 is really simple to do and makes it loud.

1. Select Sport+ on center console
2. Ensure electrically actuated exhaust flaps open up the muffler bypass (may require driving in Sport+ for a block or two)
3. Park car, but do not turn off engine
4. Disconnect the two electrical connectors to each exhaust flap - one per muffler (access under rear bumper area)
4. Turn off car
5. Enjoy a very loud exhaust in any and all driving modes

NOTE: Recommend making connectors on harness, and valve, water tight on both mufflers (total of 4 connectors will require to be made water-tight)

NOTE: Zip tie harness or it will be visible from the rear (will hang below the bumper)

NOTE: It is loud - honestly too loud for most - almost as loud as the turbo wastegate bypass mode (On startup, I can hear it a block away)

NOTE: Some drone at mid-RPMs

Completely reversible in 2 minutes and does not throw any codes.....wife hates it (and neighbors) but I love it!!!

The E70 X5M chassis is still the E70, but with an S63B44 engine designation.....The E90/E92/E93 M and the F10 M shared chassis codes with their non-M models, and were only differentiated as M's by the engine designation starting with S" for the engine codes. Not sure I understand why BMW decided to change chassis codes for "M" variants of the current "M" models.

Others may correct any errors I may have published.
