Engine Light On

I own a 2018 X3 M40i, yesterday check engine light came on,

Only error in the reader is: P052B > Cold Start "A" Camshaft Position Timing Over-Retarded Bank 1

Any ideas what this could be and how severe?

Thanks

Engine overheating

I had an engine light came on during a road trip and had to make multiple stops to cool down the engine as suggested by the screen of M40I. Engine light turned off a short period time but it came on again. Later I took it to a dealer shop and mechanics found fault memory which required subsequent reprogramming and repairing of air flaps. They also updated software.

Rarely, I receive a message to update a software. My assumption is that this may cause fault memory issue in relation to active grille, temperature sensors, and cooling system. I suggest to take your vehicle to a dealer shop ASAP and protect an engine from the internal damage.

The light never came off for me but I took it in to the dealer and the fix was basically what you described, they upgraded the software and reprogrammed some things, so far no issues and it seems like now, my vehicle has more pep than before.

Cheers
