Many Thanks

I think it's a rebranded Draw-Tite, looks like a Prodigy P2. It's in a special mount that fits into the left cup holder.

Looks like this:

http://www.amazon.com/DISCOUNT-BMW-T.../dp/B004SN7K76

Losing one cup holder is no big deal and I like having the controls at my fingertips.

I don't have the third row option and I have a spare, but self leveling was included.

Thanks for the info. I thought it was the Prod#2. We are having one installed in our "14 X6 BUT I talked with the Ast Serv Mgr and we are having ours installed under the light switch controls to the left of the steering column. Funny no one at BMW dealer knows what brand the controller is. We just did not want to give up a cup holder and potentially block or make difficult activating the seat massager and the park assist buttons that are over the left cup holder.
Thanks again

The problem I had was that oftentimes the load was so light that the hitch rattled like mad inside the receiver tube and echoed throughout the car. I bought a Softride off Amazon and voila. All is now quiet as a mouse.

If anybody else is having this problem I highly recommend it.
Is THAT what's making all the noise?!? Until I get the ton of coal on my trailer, it rattles and bounces around so freakin loud!

I used the Draw Tite hitch and a controller from ETrailer for the lights.

An issue I have now run into. When stopping the non factory hitch and wireing causes issues with the brakes, when the trailer brakes kick in the car bucks, then the trailer brakes start locking and releasing. Only did this with the boat very heavy loaded for a camping trip, I think maybe too much rear weight in the trailer although this was never an issue towing the same load with our Tahoe. I think the body control is wigging out.
Anyone else have this issue.

Picked up a load of rocks for some landscaping. 2 tons, plus the weight of the trailer. No problems.

I have lowered mine but, I have the air suspension system. Springs in front and lowering links in the rear. Here are a couple of shots from recent towing trips.

A trip with two of my freinds to Spartenburg ,SC for a BMW motorcycle event. Three BMW bikes and all our gear.

And a recent trip to pick up a car for my son.

Towed like a champ. Only downside is MPG. With my enclosed trailer I only get 10 and with the car hauler from U-Haul I got 14.

Looks great! It doesn't appear that there would be much difference in height. I've added some pictures of my X5 to compare.

09 X5 Towing

I want to know if anyone out there can confirm if a tow package is added to an 09 X5 without self leveling, that there needs to be a computer update or programing to allow for towing? Something about the configuration of the transmission and the cars computer?

BimmerandBimmer. Is that an X5 with the M sport package? Is it a D, and if not, do you know if any X5d's were produced with the M-sport package.

Re: Towing Photos with X5.

The site uktow.com recommends 2600lbs. I have towed 2 motorcycles which I would conservatively put at 1500lbs without a hitch. No pun intended.

I don't think BMW ever had an official "tow package" for the E70. The only reason you might need computer coding is for the trailer lights to function properly.

It is the 50i with the M-Sport package. One of the reasons I didn't get the D is that it was not available in the US with M-Sport (which was the only way to get the color Carbon Black).

I put a bmw hitch on mine (at the dealer) when i bought it. They had to code for things. The backup camera has a hitch zoom and a directional aid to know where your hitch will wind up as you back up was the only visible thing i saw computer wise. Oh and it disables the backup sensors when you have the hitch wiring plugged in. As far as engine/braking changes, I have no idea.

I guess i never posted a pic here. Better late than never. I get lots of stares. It's not often you see a white bmw at a coal yard.

Invisihitch proves itself again !! 500 miles, getting 15 to 20 mpg as well. Can't complain there.

The E46 is so small, it has to be on a trailer to be as high as the X5.

I went to the dealer and had the factory hitch and computer updates performed. Just towed a car on a car hauler from Atlanta to Miami, then one from Miami up yo Jacksonville. 80mph, VERY comfortable and confident.

Those are 20 inch Style 101's from the E65 7 series. They are two piece, made by BBS and rebored to fit the X5. I have non run flat toyo proxes tires on them and use them for my summer rims. I did have the lips polished by a place that polishes big rig wheels. They ride a whole lot better that the crappy run flats on my stock 19's.

I accidentally put this in the hitch thread over the weekend (I blame the cold), but wanted to stick a copy here.

The X5's overall competence in towing continues to amaze me. It's more comfortable, stable, and predictable towing this small trailer than my '03 Tundra was.
