Factory Features and Options through the years?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to purchase a first generation Z4 but am not yet sure which year.

I've done an exhaustive search but had no luck finding detailed information about the evolution of features, options and changes on the car.

Has anyone ever assembled such a document, or will I need to go through the sales brochures to figure it out? I suspect that even the brochures wont have all the important details, so I thought Id ask the guys whod know.

Thanks in advance.

Steve

I did get from one dealership the BMW Canada Inc. Product Guide 2007 (copy for Retailer Sales Personnel) for the Z4 which is pretty good breaking down Technical Specifications, Features & Amenities, Wheels & Tires, Paint, Upholstery & Trim, and Colour Linked Parts. Perhaps I should see about getting one of those for each year?

From 2003 to 03/04 build there are some features that were not available in that time frame. From 04/04 build the features were the same through the 2005 year( standardized wiring harness, one touch passenger window, operate soft top from the key, ect.) The features for 2006 was the same as 2005 other than no 2.5 ( US ) and the add of the 3.0 and 3.0si were the standard engines and the coupe and ///M models ( new facelift body style ) In 2007 the features added were, 3 flash turn signals and a aux input became standard.

I think Blue Tooth was also available from 2005 on.

I elected to go with the 2003, first model year build. Rationale is that this is the 'essence' of the design. While it doesn't have the steering wheel controls for radio, etc., the clean design is what drew me to this year model. i can forgo some of the more cosmetic attachments for the initial design. It is my preference, yours may be different, but I did not buy the car for a radio control, I bought it for the design, and the driver focus. That to me is what makes this car a time machine. Vehicle balance, driver input and the 'look', are all there. Regardless of which year you choose, you will find this a real drivers vehicle. Enjoy.

I had a 2004 and now have a 2008. I agree with you on the looks, and somehow the 2008 just doesn't have the "feel" of the 2004, even though it has 30 more hp.

The steering wheel controls for the radio can be back fitted into the car. BMW has a kit for this.

I did this on my 2003 Roadster (build date Oct 02).
