7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift. |

Can't get hood open
I have an 06 750li facelift model. The hood cannot open on this due to the driver side latch being stuck. The passenger side latch works and the center latch works.
I have already tried several methods of opening the hood including pulling on the latch cable with pliers, pulling on the latch cable through the wheel well, etc. I have cut through the front grill and can get my hand directly onto the latch. I have found that the cables are still attached and are actuating the latch lever correctly. However, the latch lever is only plastic and it seems like it no longer is capable of moving the metal part it's attached to. Moving the plastic latch lever by hand has no effect. Does anyone have any idea of how to deal with this? You can see the lever the cables attach to on the lower right side of this image: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/u9gAA...JC/s-l1600.jpg |

I feel you. I am having the same problem in my E83. Call the Steeler and they want $450 for just popping the hood. Indie shop does not even want to give me an estimate, but says it can get into the four figures. I am thinking into going to a junk yard and pick another hood and just drill this one. Anyways good luck!

Second link - that is the pre-facelift model and the instructions are not applicable. Third link - I have already taken apart the hand lever as I stated in my first post. |

Update: upon further examination, it seems the plastic lever is moving the linked metal part fine except it cannot move it all the way. I have bought a replacement part and examining it has been most educational. It's as though there was a rock lodged behind the metal latch that prevents movement past as a certain point.
