G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Anyone replace stock air filters M550i ?

Wanted to see if anyone has replaced filters with BCM filters and how hard it was? Iím looking to hear more intake sound of the turbos. Normally itís first thing I do is remove charcoal filters and replace paper filters with aftermarket.
Thanks in advance

Just an FYI, the activated charcoal filters are used in the HVAC system, not for the engine. Engine uses the plain paper filter media. I have not messed with engine air filters on the G30, so unsure how much more intake noise you might gain.

Changing filters worked great for turbo sound on F10 M5 and even my 2015 535.

I want to, I just remember with my M5 to not get filters that are too oily or it will screw mass air flow sensor. I just canít find literature on swapping filters for our car

I had tech at BMW show me how easy it is to do. I just got filters and will post back on increased turbo sound and butt dyno. Iíve seen real world results gain4% power, but weíll see. Iíve also got evolve stage 1 tune so maybe will get to hear some real turbo spooling!

Please tell more. Did you get drop in (direct) replacements? What brand, BMC?

I got K&N this time, got them lastnight. I did BMC on my M5. Strange the BMCís were $50 more than K&Nís. Might try to do them tonight.

Drop in and took 10 min to do, very simple on our car compared to my F10 M5. 4 hex screws on each intake side.

Eh, about the same maybe a touch louder. But I feel better about replacing paper with the new filter if that makes sense?
