Awesome Loaner car!!!

Today I got my 15 320i serviced for my 10,000 mile oil change. They gave me a loaner and it was a 15 328i GT hatch back and it seemed loaded..... I guess everything seems loaded compared to my 320i with a manual transmission and nothing else.

Anyways..... what an awesome car. I can't believe how fast the car was and man did it handle. Sport + ..... felt like I was in a nascar. My brother use to own a 13 subaru wrx rated at 265 hp and this bmw is rated at 240hp and 255lb tq. The beamer seems 10 times faster than the wrx.

I sort of wrote off the 328 because the price point to me makes more sense to jump up to the 335i or now the 340i. My opinion has totally changed. I also sort of like the Gt Hatchback in person too.

Does a normal 328i handle the same as the GT? This one def had the sport package, navigation and all the goodies.

My car was 33k mrsp and a sale price of 30k....... and they gave me a 50k + car. What a day!!!!!

Had a 328i GT loaner for a few days and the lunch crowd at work loved it, the rear seats(esp. the middle one) are more spacious than 5-series/E-class The center of gravity is a bit high compared to 328i though.

I had a different experience when I took my 4GC in for its first service a couple of weeks ago. Walked out to find my loaner was a 2015 535i with 4K miles. I was stoked. Never driven a 5 Series before as they are too big for my needs. Always thought if we had a family and needed more room it would be the perfect car. I believe it was fairly loaded, though I can't say for sure as I don't know anything about the 5 Series package options. The leather was nice and it had navigation and all that jazz.

All that being said...

HATED the car. Hated it.

Big. Soft. Slow. Understeer. Just no athleticism whatsoever.

Never been more disappointed in a car.

Yeah same for me, asked for a MY15 535i for a loaner and it was all sorts of meh. Besides the interior I wasn't impressed at all.

It will be as good, if not a touch better. Of course that is depending on how you option it.

I too was given a 328i GT when I brought my 320i in for a Dinan stage 1 tune. I had the same reaction. For such a robust car it halled.

However, I was even more surprised when I got my tuned 320i back and it was even faster than the 328i GT!

I got a pretty cool loaner car a few weeks back. A dinan tuned M235i. The dealer was lucky they got it back in one piece.

That is very cool. The local dealer had a 128i I6 N/A loaner and that was a great ride on twisty backroads.

I find the biggest problem with the GT to be the extra length in the wheelbase vs the other f3x cars but without any corresponding increase in track width.

The wife's 335gt hauls in a strait line but compared to the f31 it is gangly and uncoordinated in the corners. Both having DHP and xdrive making for a very even comparison.

I briefly looked at the 328i GT while shopping for wagons. There were more of them available around me but I couldn't get passed the odd shape and crossover stance of the vehicle. I lost interest very quickly. It could of driven like a Ferrari but all I saw was BMW's equivalent of the Pontiac Aztek.

Such a difference in two 328i's.

The 5 & 7 are highway cruisers, thats what they excel at, you're going from a smaller 3/4er with the the I6 to a larger and heavier car with basically the same engine. Of course its going to feel slower, softer and bigger

Last year I did the Un4gettable drive, and dang I do love that 435 coupe, it had all the BMW aftermarket accessories, felt like I was attached to the ground after driving my boat.

Meh. I got an i3 when I took mine in for the MPPK upgrade. Granted it was cool and weird and kind of fun, but I wanted to play with something more fancy/powerful than my car for a day!

I just never knew HOW much they were highway cruisers. I told my wife I hated the car but could have easily driven from coast to coast in it.

The real disconnect for me is always having heard how utterly amazing the M5 is. Obviously I didn't expect a regular 5 to perform like that, but I did expect to feel some sort of sport in it. I didn't expect it to feel like a car that I couldn't imagine being turned into the ultimate sport sedan.

In the end I recognize it was ignorance on my part. I just always though the 5 would be like a bigger, badder version of my 4GC. Now if I ever need a bigger vehicle I don't know what it will be.

My local dealer also has i3 loaners, but the loaner desk advised not to get that if the car in service needs to take multiple days, and/or the travel distance of the day takes more than 50 miles(some margin is built in).

There are also F10 loaners, but they were too boring for loaners right?

Before you guys totally dismiss the F10, you should test a 535 or 550 RWD M Sport with the 704 suspension. You'll be amazed.

BMW has managed to build a model with completely different personalities, depending on which boxes you tick on the build sheet. A 535 with the base suspension (which is what you are almost certain to get as a loaner - if you even get a 535 instead of a 528) seems to be engineered for folks new to the brand. Coming from a Lexus or a Buick, they have nothing to compare it to, and since it has a Roundel on the hood, they think it is sporty.

For someone like me or you, BMW gives you the chance to build an F10 that is not only a superbly comfortable cruiser, but will also allow you to strafe canyons or even do HPDE's with the best sports sedans on the market. (I do have a pretty good frame of reference. In addition to the BMW's in my signature, I had a succession of Audi's, Mercedes and Porsches, and spent over a decade instructing for both Porsche Club and the Mercedes track-based dealer program). But don't take my word for it. Sign up for the Ultimate Drive Event and run the 535 M Sport on the autocross course.

In my experience, a base F30 with the skinny steering wheel, the unsupportive base seats and the base suspension is every bit as unsatisfying as the non-M Sport F10. I have no clue why BMW decided to go this route, but given the number of F10's they've sold, it seems to be working.

Are you kiddin' me? The GT is longer, heavier, and has higher center of gravity. The normal 328i of course handles better.

Off topic. I test drove a 335i GT WITHout DHP and thought it was a little boaty floaty. I just ordered one with DHP though. Can you give me a brief little review of yours please sir. Thank
