Electrically, the i8 is very similar to the I3. I have only heard of one or two people even bothering to code the i8, so not sure there was enough interest to foster a dedicated cheat sheet. But, if you want to take on the project please be my guest! If you have specific questions, feel free to post them up.

coding works the same on the i8 as other BMW's but honestly it already comes with so many options, there's little worth adding except maybe digital tire pressure readouts

I had mine coded by codemycar and haven't had any issues. You can see the list of options on codemycar.com.

I don't know what these people are talking about, but i had my I8 coded and its awesome!! i love the folding of the mirrors when you lock and unlock, video in motion, mobile office on screen(text and emails), brighter headlights (Halo), different color schemes in the interior, rear foglight, so many more i can't remember. And best is the coder did it from another location because i have my obdII connection.

Here is some things I'd like.

#1 A coolant temperature gauge! Car won't go into Launch Mode until it's at 180F and there is no figging way to know when that happens!

#2 I want the camera footage from the side mirrors selectable on my screen. When parking close to curbs, this would be invaluable!

#3 More gauge customization in general.

#4 A mode where the engine charges the batteries, but is not "sport". A comfort charge mode.

#5 A way to set the car to leave a battery reserve, unless it is put into sport mode. So many times I want to punch the gas, just to find that the batts are flat.

#6 Have a track record mode. My friend's Z06 has a track mode that records from his parking camera with throttle position, brake force, G-force and other data overlayed.

Any of these things doable?

1. Google/Youtube accessing the BC menu on the car, it will show you the coolant temp on the Kombi through that menu without coding. Downside, it needs to be manually brought up each time you want to use it and takes about 45 seconds..

2. Sadly, on the i8 you just get the rear view or top-down view. I have not seen a way to change it so you get a full screen side camera view.

3. Not to my knowledge, gauge customization is beyond the realm of coding and deals with actual base software manipulation. However, you can add text features to the scrolling BC items you cycle through by hitting the BC button on the turn signal stalk.

4. Oddly, this is available on the other PHEV cars; just not the i8. They allow the driver to choose Auto mode, Max eDrive mode and Save Battery mode(which on later cars allows you to pick a percent to save). Might be changeable via coding, but have not looked into it. May be worthwhile to compare the software from an F15 40e BDC and HU-H to the i8, since the modules are the same and see what the CAFD comparison reveals.

5. See #4.

6. The F87 offers this function through your idrive and sends it to your phone, called the BMW M lap timer. Not sure on the M3/M4 platforms, but since the F87 uses the same BDC platform as the i8 another CAFD inspection of the BDC, HU-H and maybe DSC may reveal the coding needed to enable this.

-E- Here is the lap timer software for iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bmw-...684370062?mt=8

I would like the additional ambient color options.

Can I ask the dealer to do this before taking delivery ?
