So subjective... I think the best looking wheels are the M6 wheels, followed by the ones everyone else seem to hate - the pre LCI sport package 19's with the center cover that hides the ugly hardware.
If you go non OEM I think 20 inch is the sweet spot, and as far as style there are some really nice options as well as absolute horrors. All a matter of personal taste, you need to decide on the style. If you're concerned about performance and longevity of your steering / suspension components, a lower weight wheel is the way to go. As a rule of thumb the larger the wheel to higher the weight and the cheaper the wheel the more it weighs. That means a a lot of those 22's sold for $2,000 with tires are actually very likely to be detrimental to performance and longevity.
Try looking at the Vossen VSF-1 split ten spoke wheels. My son has them on his S550 Mustang. There's a few images if you do a search for Vossens, BMW 6 series, Imola red. They look great on the new body. Can't think they wouldn't look good on the e63-e64 body also.
