Blinking gear indicator issue?

Hello,

Has anyone experienced a "blinking gear indicator" issue before?

The car (F30) would function normally but on some random occasions when the car would come to a full stop (red light, parking, etc...) or when putting the car in reverse, there would be the gong sound (same as seatbelt gong; different from the parking sensor beep).

The gear indicator on the gear selector as well as in the dashboard would blink for 3 or 4 seconds and then go back to normal. The car will operate normally but the blinking indicator accompanied by the gong is rather annoying.

This would pretty much happen anytime I would put the car in reverse and sometimes when the car comes to a full stop or when I move from D to N or from N to D.

There is no message on the dashboard or on the screen and no notifications. It's frustrating because there is no information about this issue online...

Inputs anyone?

Thanks!

Is the car still under warranty? If the issue is repeatable the dealer should be able to diagnose and fix it. One guess is that some turn/side light bulbs burned out and the blinking light indicates those.

The car is not under warranty anymore. The issue is recurring, but does not occur automatically. Meaning, out of 10 tries, it will happen 8-9 times.

The dealership should be able to diagnose the issue. I'm hoping it's not an issue with the gearbox. Crossing fingers for some turn/side light bulb issue

Nope, it's none of those two errors. Gears engage correctly and seamlessly and no error message shows up anywhere.

Hi,

I have the same issue on my 118d

The car is working correctly but the "gong" every time I stop is getting me crazy

I have contacted the dealer and he has no idea about the cause.
He has suggested to stop by for a service diagnostic.
I will do it end on next week.

Does anybody has some update about this annoying issue ?

Hello Korda,

I do not have any updates yet. I had contacted the dealer some time ago and, same as you, they had absolutely no idea about the issue. I did not have a chance yet to take it in for a service diagnostic due to a heavy work schedule but am planning to do it over the next few weeks.

Any updates yet?

Hello Korda,

Did you take your car to the dealership? Any updates regarding the issue?

I didn't get a chance to take it in for a service diagnostic yet, although I have was told that it may be an electric-related issue, maybe something related to a faulty tail-light or something like that. I need to look into it some more.

Any ideas?

Solved

Hi, I have stopped the car to the dealer.

They have made some investigation and no issue has been reported by the analyzer.
After deeper investigation they have resolved the issue replacing the shift gear command module.

The replacement has been covered by car warranty. ( the cost of the module was about 500 Euro )

Hope this help you
Best regards
Stefano
