Question Thinking about buying a used BMW.. advise on maintance

Hello Dear BMW drivers and enthusiast!

I'm a 29 year old guy who just had his Acura wrecked and now has $5000 to put down on a car. I was thinking about buying an other Acura or Honda since that's all I know and have driven but a friend of mine who left the US for a month vacation lend me his 3 series BMW for the time being and well.. Honestly I dont really wanna let it go haha.

I honestly don't care much about having a flashy car. I don't really think I can afford one... I love to have the extra cash to travel. However I'm tempt to buying a BMW 3 or 5 series under 100K miles and under 10K.. (I have seen them) They are from 2000 to 2004

I was wondering if the maintance for these cars is extremely expensive? I know is a broad question but I guess I really have to consider how much money I would have to spend for tune ups and brakes.. etc. I know for Japanese cars brakes go for 300 to 450. I have a general number in my head for Japanese cars.. but will a BMW breaking down on me.. will it put me in the hole? set me back really bad? I only make $3000 a month.. I'm afraid I might be over my head..

any advise would be greatly appreciated it. Thank you!

From the thrust of your post, I would have to say (in all honesty):

"BMW is NOT the brand for you". Unless you`re a proficient DIYer and don`t mind spending a considerable amount of time & money keeping your ride in order, I would advise you to move along. These cars are high-maintainance.....

I smell a Camry or Maxima in your future....

Haha! thanks for your opinion. No. I think I would just stick to my Accords or Acuras. I hate Camry and Maxima
