1989 E34 535i Turbo build

Hi all,

I thought i would share my turbo build with everyone. When i started the build it was very easy to get side tracked and bounce around in circles due to the combinations that had worked and hadn't. I wanted to do a cheap build to have some fun with while i planned an Ls1 swap.

It has been ongoing for a couple of years, I had an earlier write up:

https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=980838

*Turbo - Billet GT42 from VS racing
*Exhaust manifold - Bought off eBay Good n Tight i believe, pics will show. $700 I think
*Injectors - Sonic performance Bosch 1000cc
*Oil feed - Picked up using a "t" fitting off the back of the head where the factory sender is. I made my own braided hose for all hoses with bits bought at the local performance shop.
*Oil drain - Fitted into block above the the sump
*Coolant hoses - Used an adapter to get rid of the long stock hose and converted to braid
*Megasquirt Pro 3 ECU
*Auto Trans failed early on so i had a C4 3 speed auto built to handle it with a custom converter and bell housing adapter
*custom tailshaft to suit
*welded stock diff
*LS1 92mm throttle body fitted to the rear part of the manifold
*Tial 46mm wastegate
*3" universal intercooler kit - eBay $220
*Walbro 255lpm in-tank pump
*2L surge tank with twin aeroflow 044 pumps
*-8 braided fuel line for supply and return
*Billet fuel rail i found on ebay
*New fuel pressure reg
*ARP head studs

As it is now, I have been running 18psi through this combo with no problems and it is great fun. In a couple of weeks i will be converting it to E85, get it on the dyno and try and push 20psi. see how it goes. I will post a picture of the dyno sheet when done. Goal is to rebuild the engine, fit forged rods and pistons, mls gasket and some heavy duty rocker arms with locks.

The power is addictive, think of an end result and stick with it. All up I have spent roughly $20,000 on upgrades but i could of saved a bit if i didnt muck around at the start and i guess my needs changed. Amazing motor, very surprised how well it has handled all that boost stock.
