just replaced the turn signal stalk the newer one has more clearer letters and symbols..tip...i covered the labels on both stalks with clear/transparent gorilla tape. *Warning! The tape is strong...The letter's paint is old and weak. So you must be accurate when laying the tape the first time...laying the tape down and picking it back up to replace second time probably will strip the lettering from the stalk's surface.

Took several days, but finally successfully downloaded ISTA-D, configured settings so that my laptop (whose battery is shot and required an extension chord) so that it and the car could communicate, and reset transfer case and engine adaptations. The slight but annoying off-idle hiccup that's been with the car since 2012 has (::knocks on wood:

Got my emissions done yesterday despite having 6 warning lights illuminated on the dash

Just your run-of-the-mill oil and filter change today. Drained the gasp non-LL01 rated 0W-50 Mobil 1 out and put the the same stuff in. Five quart jug is $22.88 at WalMart plus they also have a $10 rebate going on now that the earlier $12 rebate ended at the end of May.
Also needs a brake job soon (wear indicator’s been on for a while now), but didn’t have the time to do it today since my daughter had to head back home. Maybe next time, when ever that’s going to be... ![]() Tried resetting the oil service mileage with my Creator C310+, but to no avail. From what I’ve read, it should be able to do that, but it just keeps giving communication error, which doesn’t make sense since I did check bunch of the modules for codes and cleared SES that’s on due to P0171 and 174. Really need to do something about those soon, too, since it needs inspection in August and changing the intake boots a few months ago didn’t help. No other codes in any of the modules. Well... Other than some weird one that appeared five times and just said “no description”.

I replaced the vacuum hose that connects to the exhaust butterfly valve to the control valve located in the left rear trunk compartment. Not that difficult of a job, you have to slide back the left side of the rear bumper to the gain access to where the hose enters the vehicle.

tail gate trunk release today on the 04.
I have to click the fob trunk release button sometimes up to five times or I have to time the click and my lifting almost instantly to get the trunk open. well I look to put an end to that annoying functioning. in my research this can be a common issue for the x3. however, the 05 never gave me that problem. I have noticed on the 04 someone has lifted the rear hatch trim panel (that is not the location of the fix) but the rear latch floor panel is (Pelican Parts has a good repair writeup) Pelican Technical Article - BMW-X3 - Tail Gate Latch Replacement https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...eplacement.htm release switch has arrived yesterday Look at this on eBay https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F152978857758 and today the 04 goes into minor surgery. Finally replaced that squeaking drivers door strap. No matter what lube, grease or what I tried I couldn't silence it. Ended up finding a new strap on eBay for approx $30 so I replaced that today and now the door is nice and silent. Tried to examine the old one to see where it could be making the noise couldn't determine it. And the thing was covered with grease, fluid film, silicone you name it.
Then I washed the engine bay. Of course the before picture was just as I started.. |

Under the power train menu somewhere. I’m no where near fluid enough in the program to walk you through it, just gotta explore. And no, battery disconnect won’t do it. Same with transfer case and transmission adaptation. Gotta erase them then let the car go to sleep before starting. Sent from my iPhone using Bimmerfest mobile app

eBay for a compressor? I would take harvesting from a junkyard so I can check for AC pressure to make sure it's dry.

Completed the oil change 0w 40 Mobil 1 05 is humming right along with it...I'll keep my eye on it...last time I used it was back in 2015...I also called Mobil 1...Rep was nice...said the bmw was taken off the label in that same year. he was not aware of a formula change. many details were up in the air...but the way our conversation went was that Mobil has made a submission for approval but bmw *1 is refusing to give approval or *2 is waiting for approvals to expire so they can touted one brand...who knows? But the Rep was dumbfounded just like us all...did you know BMW gets a cut of the price for just having its name on the label? And if you notice the price has declined for the 0w40 with out the bmw name listed on the front label. (Doing us a favour maybe) It's like...example: when you buy name brand and generic, not knowing, the name brand also produces the generic product...ford -Jaguar...I know,,, bad example, but you get the idea....

Solved a triad of death light issue (ABS, BRAKE, 4X4) with a 29 cent washer

Tried a cheap headlight restore. This stuff is $8/bottle. Seems to make a difference. Cheaper than buying new headlights and easier than those other kits where you're sanding, buffing, polishing, etc.

What did you do to your E83 X3 today?
I mostly got the X buttoned up yesterday after replacing the tank and every hose (at least the ones I ordered :Banghead: ), but the store was out of distilled water. Had to take the Redneck Taxi on my 400 mile work commute, enjoying its commanding view of the road and its 15 mpg.

Cheaper, for sure, but let’s see how long it lasts.
