Z3 Impeller Materials

Hey all,

Have 85K on the clock, so changed out my '98 2.8l Zed's water pump, serpentine tensioner & pulley, and both belts over lunch. Better safe than expensive. Even counting in fabbing up a fan-holder tool, it was a ton simpler than the last time I did all this (on a '96 Z3, heh).

At any rate, once I'd pulled the pump that was in there (which was not making noise; this is all simply preventative maintenance), I noticed that the impeller was metal. Anyone know if 1998 Z3s shipped with metal-impeller water pumps? I was under the impression they were all composite materials (hence the extra mess if/when the bearing gave). If I'm correct, that means the previous owner actually changed it out at some point.

Hilariously enough (if you have that sort've sense of humor), the bearings on my alternator started making noise on the way to work this very morning, so I get to pull a bunch of this stuff apart in a few days time!

My 97 Roadster was composite but my 2000 M Roady was metal. They seem to be mix and match because when I was trying to find out about my materials in my 2k M Roady I was told that it was composite but when i took it out it was metal. That was from the BMW dealership. I am glad I didn`t let them replace it.
