Dave

I am surprised you are a member of a country club. The fees here vary.

I don't belong to any country clubs.

But we do pay an annual fee of $75 to Alaska Air. We get a free companion certificate each year which is handy.

Depends on the services you get with the card, some are pretty reasonable with AMEX while others are pretty stupid. The same goes with other card holders! I recently had Citi place a hold on an account because they said my payment was abnormally large... WTF? Needless to say, account closed!

I don't pay the extra fees on my credit cards. Each time I just call and get the fees removed.

CC=credit card.

No crap now. Just the facts. What are you paying for your credit cards. I don't care what you are getting return. I just want to know what you are paying each year for "membership".

$0. I haven't had a card with fees in years. They get the fees from the stores. That should be enough.

I don't even know nor do I care. I assumed, however, that you meant Country Club, as I never considered it a particular honor to be a "member" of Mastercard.

I pay $250 a year for two Visa CC, $100 for a Mastercard and $75 for American Express. I also have some $85,000+ debt on my Visa and Mastercard, but since they are maxed out, I'm trying to find another Visa, Mastercard or Discovery card.

That's the answer I wanted to hear. I'm not paying any CC membership fees even though they give me miles. etc...

i have never paid for a cc fee. i had an amex gold for a few years (when we brokered with ameriprise--they waived the fee) but then i never really cared much for amex and moved the $ to vanguard and cut up the card. i do covet the chase marriott rewards premier card, and even though you get perks that more than make up for the $65 annual fee, i still don't want to pay it out of principle (and haven't yet figured out how to sweet-talk them into waiving it for me--not even for the first year).

HTs - strange they won't waive it. Amex seems pretty good about that.

either i wasn't clear or you misunderstood. we paid no annual fee for our amex gold when we had it. i was never a fan of amex (the card or the financial services), so when we ditched our financial planner at ameriprise, i didn't even attempt to call amex to get them to waive the fee on the gold card (how much is it--$75/$100 a year?) as i couldn't cut up that card fast enough.

the card i want is the chase marriott one--if you know of a way for me to talk them out of their stinkin' annual fee, i'm all ears.

I was talking about the Marriott card. It's weird that they won't help you out on that. With Amex we've never had an issue and I've always assumed this was true with other cards too.
