Badwater, Death Valley

First picture, compliment of Plaz.
2nd picture, LA Times.

With the snowcapped Panamint Mountains in the background, Cole Fulwider wades in a lake 282 feet below sea level left by recent storms. Record rainfall has transformed the normally bone-dry desert with flowers and pools, drawing tourists before withering heat returns.

The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve. This 1,745 acre State Reserve, nestled in the Antelope Buttes 15 miles west of Lancaster, California, is located on California's most consistent poppy-bearing land. Seven miles of trails wind gently through the wildflower fields. The broad views of this landscape provide eyefuls of brilliant wildflower colors. The best time for viewing is mid-April.

How was the Sea yesterday, did it stink? You should have stopped by my place in Palm Desert!

Hey, we have a place in Indian Wells! Of course there was no one there that day; I haven't been in months.

It always stinks.... they need to pull the plug on that thing and let it drain. Blech...

We're planning a trip up through the Joshua Tree National Monument in a couple weeks to photo the wildflowers. Should be great with all the rain we have had.

I've been thinking of our Death Vally trip a year ago. That was fun.

Hehe, I didn't even notice how close you are to us too; our house is right at Cook and the 111 (The Cove at Indian Wells).

The 1st time I visited Badwater was back in 1989 when it was simply a small sign off the side of the road and no parking area like there is today. I wish I had my camera with me when I first went there. It was quite different as I recall. Full of plants and insects... life. Quite different than I expected, especially for a place known as Death Valley.

For whatever reasons, I could not open your photos that I saved on a CD, Oct 5, 2002. I was at Denny's with you guys, but I had some sort of appointment that day so I didn't go.

I sold the 930 a couple months ago and made a nice profit (I paid $22,000 for it in 2002 — when this pic was taken — and sold it for $73,000). I bought two Porsches in its place.

We need to do another Death Valley trip this October!

I will be out there Oct 5-7 for a wedding. I don't even know how to get in touch with the old timers. I thought those air cooled turbos could hit $125K? The 997.1 Turbo you screened just sits in the garage, gets less than 2000 miles a year. Your son/daughter driving the Boxster?
